Just spent twenty minutes trying to describe how utterly enchanting is Ms. Mary Spender. I failed. Words fail me. Wow. Just like the finest piece of wood, with the most impressive grain, the most luxurious and ornate carving, the warmest color, the deepest resonance, serving as both instrument and art. And that voice. I could hear it all day, every day, singing or talking, for all of eternity. Again, not good enough. No justice. Love that woman.

This is a blessed friendship: I love how the commonly shared musical insights aired through years of personal insights... With all due respect for the two and hearing their very own channels through time and now hearing them side by side; I couldn't help but, hear through their conversation that there is a musical tonality relation... I believe a duet between the two would be beautifully crafted... If this comes into play, please make it a love song so all can relate to the fact that regardless of musical style changes which rides the airwaves, the sentiment will withstand the test of time... Love you both Mary and Rob thanks for your endless efforts to bring the music lovers to your world of musical passion. Sincerely: (Doktah77) David Paul Rivera 😏 😏🐈meow

Watching a video(or in my case LP) a bunch of times and learning a song by ear is SO much more developmental as a musician than constantly thinking "how do I learn this, there are no tabs"! Obviously, having formal training and reading music is ideal, but many of the best guitarists have never taken/took lessons or could read a note of music! Well done! ;)

Recently I have been beating myself up on how much I am speeding up when I am singing and playing. I play with a human metronome so I hear about it when I speed up. I really appreciate the side shots. It's interesting to see how one would play a guitar properly with fingerpicking style. I'm so interested in learning this sort of thing. I'm trying to learn good finger-picking with ukulele at the moment. I want to learn guitar properly at some point. But it feels like my chords are just so muddy and I can't press hard enough. I really need to find good motivation to learn well with the guitar, too.

There is really something special about a single person playing guitar and singing (same goes for piano and singing, etc). I feel it's a higher level of communication because there is more "information" flowing, like higher bandwidth, than what we can do just with voice. Also Mary's voice is awesome and her guitar skills perfectly completement the singing. And I say complement because I believe that once there is singing the human brain will automatically be focusing on listening to the lyrics to some greater extent, and then the instrument provides a scenary, a context, hints, moods, emotions. Now that I think of it... the instrument works (in this type of music at least) as the extended expression of the voice. Does that make sense? Cheers!

I have known John Mayer's name for more than a decade but only in the past couple of months have I really realized what a great artist he is (in no small part due to Mary's "casual chat" with him at NAMM, reminding me that he exists). So I'm steadily becoming a fan of his. Back to you Mary, your 2010 version was great and as a small time guitar player myself, I wish I could play and sing it like you did back then. But your 2018 version is a whole other level. This is top shelf stuff. I had to pause the video for a long moment to let it sink in, it really is /that/ good. And the better part is that you made it your own, it's got all the Mary-Spenderesque low-E-A-strings-slap and your voice on it. Covers are super hard to get right. I think this new one nails it. I don't have much else to say. Cheers

I’ve had the click track being picked up by the mic all the time to. I found the best way to limit it is to wear in ears and then closed back headphones over top of them. Especially with drums where the click has to be louder as drums are loud and the overhead condenser mic’s are relatively closer to the drummers head. Even with just in ears they pick up the click. Try it out for getting rid of the unnecessary bleed.

A consummate performance (& naturally) improvement, Mary. You are definitely courageous in reprising the great John Meyer's, classic - or at the very least, one of (his) classics. The latter version has a degree of warmth to it, whereas your initial effort seems to be somewhat sterile; but as you assert, not long in the exercise of finger-picking - which, in & of itself, is considerably harder than most onlookers would perceive..that said, picking affords the player far more control (in my humble opinion). Personally, I think you're a great musician - creating that 'sweet spot' for oneself is an ongoing strife - not because (you) don't know yourself, but the evolution - as a musician, is a perpetual struggle. To my mind, you're a superb & competent instumentalist. You have my absolute respect & admiration..sally forth, Ms. Spender :D
