Thanks for the extensive review. Seems that Dasung monitors are still much better as external monitors. I was expecting something better for the price.

Thanks for the review, learnt a lot even if I now have the device myself! Just 2 remarks from my own experience, for people who are interested in Screen Casting. - I didn’t manage to write in color either. The PDF colors show up correctly when you cast, but not the notes color. A bit of a shame for remote teaching, where it would be nice to have different color options. - You can view PDF in landscape mode (for instance for a presentation). However whenever you start writing on it, the screen automatically switches back to portrait mode on the computer, creating a weird bug which makes it unusable. No problem in portrait mode.

It'll be the same or worse than the one I mentioned here, so no point. It's the same thing, just a smaller screen. For me it doesn't work, because I like to jump from part to part quickly and the low latency of the screen doesn't allow for that.

I don't think HDMI provides touch feedback signal to the laptop. Did you try the USB C cable? Also I think the monitor function would drive me crazy, except maybe for running a document. Watching it on your video made my skin itch.
@MyDeepGuide

Every touch was like, "ugh, what happened now!?" Spacedesk works a lot better, and in such config I can easily see myself using it as a screen for typing documents on. The only problem is the one I mentioned, I still keep trying, impulsively, to scroll up with touch, and that doesn't work. What helps is to put the tablet physically further away, like a regular screen :) then I start using it like a normal screen, and that works, but it wouldn't be my first choice. It's nice to have an option and definitely a plus, but could be improved a lot.

Hey Voja! I wanted to know about the battery life when using the SpaceDesk application.. How many hours would it run continuously (with back light off, wifi on) in A2 mode, speed mode and X mode, approximately? Do you recommend wireless screen mirroring with the device plugged into charge or without? Also, I had read reviews for the Max 3, saying that using the screen mirror functionality more often wears out the battery quickly, and even simple tasks like reading start draining the battery much quicker after that... Did you feel this with your usage?
@MyDeepGuide
3 жыл бұрын
Any monitor mode will drain the overall battery condition over time, as it is a high consumption mode. Boox recommends to keep the device plugged in while in monitor mode and I agree. As for battery life, I did a test on Max 3 back in April/May and wirelessly it was 7 and a half hours of playing the fireplace video on YT in A2 mode, FL off. So we I imagine Lumi will have similar performance. I don't have the time to run those tests now, as I have the device for only a couple more days, and I have other stuff to do with it during that time.

Pretty interesting review. Love it. Never knew about Spacedesk. Although if I had the Lumi I probably wouldn't use it as an extension monitor. I have two external portable monitors which I use with my laptop. It would have been nice is for the operation to be in reverse, for the Lumi to project its screen on to an external monitor or laptop.

@ I don't think you can do it natively on the Mac. You will have to install software on the Mac that will make it available for screen casting. I did a quick search online and there is a software app for the Mac called Reflector that does exactly what you're looking for; however, it costs around $20.00 to purchase. After installing it, you should be able to find your Mac on your Onyx Boox tablet in the screen cast devices it discovers for casting. Additionally, some other Mac programs that can do this as well that may be free and/or better are some of the following: ApowerMirror, LetsView, AirDroid, and Vysor. Hopefully, this may help you.

Thank you very much for your extensive review! I am amazed that you do such extensive and helpful reviews! I was wondering, if it is possible to show the screen of the Max Lumi on the computer screen, if they are wired. I didn't see this functionality in your review and I would very appreciate, if you could answer me. During the Zoom meetings I often need to show other meeting participants, what I am writing. So I was considering to use Max Lumi to write it on and by sharing my laptop screen with other participants they could see what I am writing on the Max Lumi. Unfortunately my laptop doesn't support screen cast with Max Lumi. So I am interested in this option only if they are wired.

@@MyDeepGuide I also have a similar problem - I want to share live onyx screen (e.g. notes with all of theirs functionality) on my business calls (Skype or Teams via "share desktop") but I'm using Mac. I was hoping that HDMI will resolve that and bring me this capability. Do you think: 1. It's better to plug-in HDMI, create a new desktop and turn on some app like paint and using an onyx pen to take notes, and share screen during the call of that (but in that scenario you are missing all cool functionality of onyx notes like handwriting recognition) 2. Cast onyx screen via WiFi - but I'm not sure if the connection is fine and it will not break during the call and is it possible to cast onyx screen but still maintain other screens of the laptop (like Skype or Teams controls and so on), or casting onyx will override other desktops (laptop screens) and you won't be able to for example mute during a call? Or you think for described above functionality (using this device like a graphical tablet to share live notes during calls) and general pdf reading the remarkable2, or any other will be better (via HDMI or wireless connection)? Thank you in advance for your answer - already your deep analysis of this product was very useful :)

Lumi 2 is a huge disappointment on many fronts. Just a series of bad decisions and it seems like that project was lead by someone from the accounting department, not someone who actually knows how to design a device. Yes, but very much so not recommended to do that under any circumstances, because you will be forcing the batteries past their normal operating conditions and then it's not a question of if, but merely when they will fail, and when they do, they might inflate and break the screen as well. You never want to for batteries into a state of rapid discharge (working as a monitor) and charge at the same time. The the surest way to ruin any battery, these included.

This is a tablet device, that can also be used as an external monitor, but it is not a dedicated monitor device. As such, you have to be careful with it's battery or you will be running a very real risk of ruining the device, as you will be over stressing the battery. You can set the USB connectivity functionality and not allow it to charge the device, or use it as a wireless display, to avoid overstressing the battery.
