Thank you for the video. I was so close to buying an Onyx Boox until I read how the company is withholding the source code and then finding out that they're a Chinese company. Now I'm on the fence about purchasing. Can't wait for part 2 and see your findings.

When did Onyx Boox become a Chinese company? I thought they were Russian...

Using IM, the general message push mechanism is like this. It will report the status of app at intervals to ensure the normal push channel. Google's push estimation is similar to the processing method

Thanks for posting , so far i really like this device, only problem i had was it did not come with the bundle with the case and other accessories, so i had to buy something from ali express.

also there is 1 "dead" pixel on the left side , it doesn't bother me much - my deep guide also reported this on his channel. is there a high likely hood of this happening at this screen size?

Hey, thanks a lot for looking into this. Would you mind sharing what cli tool are you using to inspect the network traffic?

i suggest to check non http protocols as well , get a router with openwrt install tcpdump and capture all traffic from the wireless interface also worth checking is what happens when you connect this to a computer via usb (would it try to attack the computer?)

@@grumpyoldit6447 Ok, thanks. Do you know if it's possible to run Onyx Boox Max Lumi without ever connecting to wifi? If I want to upload books to read via usb ... I don't know if you ever have to connect, in order to download apps, etc and am trying to be really privacy aware. Thanks!

@@grumpyoldit6447 I heard from another channel that the handwriting recognition function only works if it's connected to the internet. If that's not true, please post a note here. Thanks!

@@simes653 I can confirm handwriting recognition works without the network. You do have to have the network enabled for the first use, likely to download language specific dictionary or something, but after that you can turn the wifi off and it continues to work.
