Your videos are very cool, but this in particular, could have some more info because the product is uncommon. The screen mirroring (wireless or wired) and the possibility of using it with a bluetooth keyboard to edit word (With Textmaker hd, for example) or the multi tasking with any app (that they implemented in this model) are mayor selling points that weren't present here...this is a tablet with an e ink screen. For students, teachers, lawers, (jobs with intense office use, with lot of reading time, this is a cool option) I have Note2 (last year 10.3 model) and i use it as a notebook. I teach with the device and read and grade all my students papers with it. I really recommend it. Also, you can watch youtube on it if you have to, I understand you said that isn't awesome because de refresh speed, but it supports playing youtube videos on browser and the youtube app if you need to. Please don't misunderstand my comment, I tried to add info! Thanks for your videos!

I'm waiting on mine to come in the mail. I ordered it to read textbooks on. In the age of online classes and digital textbooks, it is very frustrating and straining on the eyes to read on a white backlit screen all day. I'm excited for an e-ink reader in this size. If e-ink readers came with linux support, they could do well with all the document authoring tools (lib reoffice, texlive etc.)that come with linux. That way, eink readers could be even become laptop alternative for college going students for taking class notes(and sharing, study even). The 879$ or higher price will also be justified this way ( because of the software and hardware supports the manufacturers may wisely chose to invest on). With linux, e-ink devices could become what tablets always wanted to be, that is an everyday note taking gadgets at offices.

Great review! I'm disappointed the market for these e-ink readers hasn't pushed prices down much. I use a Samsung AMOLED tablet for reading and that works pretty well actually. @@sloppynyuszi Really, a third party app that works on e ink?! Bookmarked! I'm eagerly awaiting my Boox Note Air delivery to test drawing capabilities / limits. From the videos I've seen it seems more a software issue: Hardware is all good, the note app is okay-ish (especially with the layers and the newer brushes), but made for writing primarily. For example there is no fill. Sooo... What I'm thinking is that someone "just" needs to head over to github, get the onyx dev libraries and develop a black-and-white raster based drawing android app on their free time (because, you can't really market such an app). And it would be perfect for on the go sketching. But for a primary ART tablet I'd also recommend an iPad or a Windows TabletPC.

But, I have to admit, now I read on my iPad Mini, iPad Pro 12", and even on my MacBook Pro 16". The whole eyestrain thing may be true for some, but not an issue for me (esp with sepia selected for reading background). @@mobiletechreview Hi Lisa, I designed, developed plans, and contract documents for highway construction for 8 years. Now I hire and manage consultants and the projects they either design or perform construction engineering on. On the software side: besides our (atrocious) file management suite ProjectWise and the future going more towards "contract models", I really like BlueBeam Revu and the live environment it creates for reviewing documents. The color coding for different reviewers is good, but even better are all of the tools that's offered (it can search and compare 2 documents and find the changes which saves a lot of time when you're dealing with thousands of pages). On the hardware side, I most prefer a workstation which has a touchscreen that is visible outdoors (1080 is fine as it saves battery). I also prefer an onboard mobile data card. In situations when the track pad or track point won't do, and because I'm in the truck there's no ergonomic way to use the mouse is when the touchscreen and pen support is needed for me. But imagine having one Onyx Boox Max Lumi to replace the bookshelf of college textbooks and post-its. Imagine if it had integrated access to the campus bookstore where you could rent your text books. Who needs a backpack? I suppose the influx in distance learning students this year don't need backpacks. Back to school sales and supplies are probably going to consolidate to digital products. Edit: for writing contract documents I prefer Word and the file and collaborative change management in Office 365.

Depends on what you need and expect. It's plenty quick for an e-reader and note taker. Yes, it's $800, but don't forget that this is a niche product, which can't benefit from the scale advantages like something like an iPad. So relatively these are always going to be more expensive. And if this fits your use case, it's worth the outlay: 800 isn't that expensive for a professional tool.

Seems like e-ink technology is crawling at a snail's pace. I understand there have been improvements but we should be at zero lag by now. That means when you press a button it does what it's supposed to do straight away. Until then I think I'll always be distracted by the UI and that's one layer of distraction between having ideas and being productive. It would be enough to throw me out of the immersive mood of using such a device to learn. Maybe for someone who learns more leisurely this might be good, perhaps I'm just too used to flipping screens, zooming and scrolling at the speed of thought on my laptop, it's hard to learn at any other pace.

Battery no bigger than 10.3 Note, which is too small for that. Should have a 10,000mah battery or larger with that front light - BIG Mistake BOOX

UPDATE: If I may share what I've learned, the Note Air is a very poor product after all. Once I received it and spent several hours with it, mostly marking up research pdfs, I discovered how truly horrible it is. That's despite the glowing reviews many give it -- but keep in mind 90%+ of those reviews are made by people that don't really use the device (i.e. they are 'reviewers') or don't use it daily for professional applications. But, there's also one more thing I discovered... the Onyx company that makes the Note Air and other ereaders is extremely unfriendly, and they are bound, as they said in an email, to "policies of the Republic of China" and thus are unable to handle returns or refunds like the rest of the world has become accustomed to. I went through endless (and pointless) communications with them about doing a return. I'd only used the device for one weekend, that was all it took. My warning is to not do business with Onyx, unless you've got money to burn and like getting walked on. The money spent on an Onyx Boox e--reader would be better spent towards a high-end regular tablet. Original comments: Yes, a fine device. I have a Boox Note Air. But the software is pretty awful when you actually sit down to use it. For some reason in early 2021 it's still ok for this to happen -- make a nice device, load it with software that hasn't been through rigorous "usability" testing. What you have in the Onyx Boox operating system (an Android version) is a patchwork of interfaces that do the same things, but in different ways, layouts and workflows. It's quite annoying and quite clear that multiple programmers had their hands in it all, each with their own idea of how to implement things. If you're in the Notes area, there's a simple and useable UI. But move over to the vaunted NeoReader and you're in for a nightmare of mish-mashed toolbars and icons top and bottom that make your head spin. And then there are odd third UIs that show up when certain pop-ups happen. In the end, it's an unnecessary mess. My advice to Onyx, invest in cleaning up and unifying the numerous UIs that exist on the device. And, let's not even get into their horrible spelling and language usage errors that pepper all of it -- a product of English not being the first language of this device's creators. Nor, the non-standard ways of logging into their bizarre online cloud system with nomenclatures that require looking up, studying and trial by error. I'm still within my 15 day free-return window and am in doubt about whether I'll keep it, though I know there's little real competition in this market.

They knew that it lagged the way it does (which is awful). They knew that it had a slow on-screen refresh rate, and they knew that they were running an outdated version of Android, “YET” ☝🏾☝🏾☝🏾🤦🏾♂️ They still brung this to market!? 🧔🏾🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Are you kidding me? For the price that they’re asking, (which is too high) I’d rather buy an iPadPro, throw in a great stylus, and call it a day.
