Two things: 1. The clips that are fragile aren't the attachment clips - they're the plastic welds that hold the vents to the trim piece...check the back and they likely broke. The way to avoid this is to pull the top clips loose first, preferably prying it with a spudge tool so it doesn't move too far, and then grab the back side of the vents firmly as you work the remaining clips loose. This will keep the vents in place against the trim panel and prevent (hopefully) the plastic welds from breaking. 2. Zip-ties around the ratcheting arms will work great, too.

"On the GTI and Golf, we have a different center console design because they have a manual hand brake, while the Golf R has an electronic hand brake," Gillies said. "On the GTI and Golf, the armrest has a latch to secure the armrest in place to comply with FMVSS [Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards] regulations. The European Golf R armrest does not have this latch, so the decision was taken to lock it to accord with FMVSS regulations."

Yeah besides little things I'm hoping to see them change, the mark ups are ridiculous. My local dealer has two with the DCC and Nav, 10k mark up. I thought it was a joke and luckily "they like me so they're willing to knock 5k off". Not only that but they're making it out to be more limited than it really is and won't even allow test drives. They only had limestone grey which I hated, and black which is good but I'm not crazy about anyway. Going to try and get info on preordering a white 16 model. I had so many flats on my R32, and many sidewall bubbles from potholes (thank you CalTrans ....California Department of Transportation...) from freeway repair and maintenance...I think they believe that everybody drives a friggin SUV or pickup....they would finish work at around 5 AM and not even bother to temporarily mark the lanes, so there would be multiple lane lines, the bots dots were removed, so it was a mess. They would merge 5 lanes into one in the space of about 150 feet.

Thanks! Do you know if this car has the indirect ABS TPS monitoring for easy tire swaps without need for reset of rim mounted sensors? All the best.
@zed4me
9 жыл бұрын
No TPMS (VW moved away from this system awhile ago). The ABS system detects if one wheel moves at a rate different than the others and a warning light. You won't be able to see individual PSIs but I prefer it this way because it saves wheel/tire costs yet you're still aware if there's a leak in any of the tires (since it will be spinning faster). Only thing is if all the tires have a slow leak, but chances of that are slim. No replacement for checking tire pressures as maintenance though.

@largol33t1

That's a misunderstanding. The cubby is designed to hold in three positions so it can be used by people with short arms (like me!). I have a GTI. If I lift it 30 degrees and push back, it locks in that position. It does it again at 60 degrees. If I pull it completely open, it releases and I can close the lid. I love that it also slides back and forth. Sometimes, all the little details of the GTI make me wonder how clever its design team was... I also love the left mounted miniature glove box. I keep my garage remote in there. It's so handy because I can downshift with my right while opening the garage with my left!

+Atlas Tomcat I don't see why the storage compartment is like this on U.S. models.. It's not like it has any electrical components inside it... It's just a place for storage... +Ray Brewer US crash regulation require that the armrest must stay closed during a crash or roll-over and because there is no latch mechanism to keep it closed, they restrict it from opening at all. LOL you don't know how that arm work, do you? if you close it fast it will not stop in the middle and it will actually close all the way, they made them that way so you can adjust the arm rest height, when closing it when you slow down it will lock itself into that position, it's been that way since the Golf mk5. trust me open it again and remove that tape then try to close it fast and you'll see how it works.
@zed4me
8 жыл бұрын
I know that's how it works but you're not supposed to need to close it fast for it to close all the way. There's a mechanism that is missing from this where if you open it all the way, it will close all the way, exactly like a ratcheting mechanism is supposed to work.
@abdbach379
8 жыл бұрын
that's how it works in my 2004 golf mk5, I changed the AC vent back there and checked it, there is nothing missing from it and that's how it works on mine because there are like 3 positions where you can lock the arm rest, so if you slow down when reaching one of the positions it will lock itself there, otherwise how would you choose the height of the arm rest if there were several
@abdbach379
8 жыл бұрын
maybe I should explain how it works, you see those metal parts you taped? like you said they have little weight to them so when you close the arm rest fast enough they actually float (when free falling) for a moment and their teeth don't engage until you arm rest is closed all the way up.
