I feel so bad for these people. People worry about getting in car accidents or being dumped. But winding up in the kind of state of mind that these people are in is way more likely and way more terrifying then being attacked by a bear.

@Unism It seems to me like a symptom of society as a whole becoming more moralistic, except people nowadays don't have a generally shared ideology like Americans did in the 1950s and 17th century. Pretty much everyone belongs to an insular community with homogenized ideas and, I would wager, are less willing to accept what they view as moral "deviancy" as a result.
