I' ve tested the Micro Dark with the little box and different 1x12" and 4x12" cabs and compared it also to other "bedroom-amps" available on the market , bevore i bought it ... - what i can say, is, that "the sun began to rise", whenever 12"-speaker were used. I got the very best results using Celestion "Vintage 30ties", no matter if i played on clean, crunchy or overdriven/distorted settings!! The "shape" control is very sensible and there are many interesting sounds possible!! All in all i can honestly say, that this little "dark devil" is momentary the perhaps best amp in its price-area!! - The effects-loop is a great feature. With a good delay and reverb the sound gets space, and the use of a "t-rex mudhoney 2" and a "boss eq-7" pedal made this a very versatile multi-channel amp.- If you ABSOLUTLY MUST HAVE something to critisize, then i like to mention the "balanced"(?) headphone out ... the sound is thin and very fizzy - i think, they should've been able to do this better ... - but this is really the ONLY weak aspect of the whole sound machine i found out - and in my case its not a big thing !! I' ve now two of these micro-darks running through two 4x12" orange v30 cabs, giving me full stereo sound in studio and on live events and i use one of the "dark dwarfs" thru a 1x12" for home rehearsal .... - what can I say - it all works PERFECT for me!! ( I' m part of a texas blues rock cover band and a prog-metal group). Easy to transport, easy and quick to built up ( our road helpers can concentrate on p.a., lights and other important issues...) .. and sounds really great!! Okay, that's what i can say abput the "orange micro dark" and speakers.....

I have used the Orange Micro Terror live with either a EH 44 Magnum and or a Musicman HD150 with 1x12 cabs with a full band. Now, I use a stereo pair of Orange Micro Terrors. Currently driving a stereo 4x12! I would like to hear the Orange Micro Dark and a Orange Micro Terror run in stereo. Use the Orange Micro Dark as the preamp and fx loop take the second output of the fx loop into the input of an Orange Micro Terror. I bet that would sound fantastic!

No it is not, It is plenty loud. I am using a stereo 4 x12. I have also, used 1x12 cabs in dry wet dry. Plenty of volume. I don't even have to crank it very hard. I am even attenuating the volume of the overdrives. I don't use the overdrive in the Orange Micro terrors. I run the tone knob flat and I use a parametric eq to shape the sound rather than any eq on the Micro Terrors. They sound great. They are not toys. They are freaking good. It is all how you use your gear.

I still get a lot of breakup at low gain, higher volume settings (lower gain than the setting at the end of the video) so I can't get a good clean tone. There's a lot of buzz on the low E string in particular. Am I doing something wrong, or using bad cables? The guitar is a low end Jackson Rhoads with humbuckers which is pretty metal, but still I think I should be getting better clean tones.
@givemeajackson
8 жыл бұрын
+martinitime1975 what cab are you using, and does the guitar have fret buzz on its own on the low E? the fact that it's buzzing at high volume and on the lowest string tells me that that's not the amp distorting, but the cab rattling around. also, what happens if you roll off the guitars volume a tiny bit? does the overall volume decrease, and does the rattle stay? and to finish off my many questions, is your guitar a js30 or js32? cause i've had that one, and the pickups (the black plastic covered ones) aren't particularly hot, so that would not be the prolem
@martinitime1975
8 жыл бұрын
+givemeajackson Well, I think I left out several factors, and I was able to get a good ringing clear tone out of it last night. I think I had some cable/pedal order issues before. I did replace all of the cables with better ones. Also, my main ax is a low end Jackson Rhoads (which I love) that has had wiring issues right out of the box. I recently had to re-solder some of the pots due to the neck pickup failing. I still think I have a ground issue, but either way I was able to get a good, loud clean tone last night. Go figure. I use a Seismic 2x12 cab that was very affordable and got good reviews in multiple places around the web. I love the tones on this thing in general, but I have to use an overdrive (Joyo Husky Drive in my case) to get the attack on the lower strings for metal chugging.
@givemeajackson
8 жыл бұрын
martinitime1975 the husky is the ocd clone, right? i've got the mooer fulldrive, which is also an ocd clone. my orange OR15 loves that pedal. orange distortion is always slightly sludge-ish without a boost, but with the boost that cane be corrected easily while still leaving you with that totally alive crunchy tone. i might get the micro dark for my students to use, it's cheap, yet it's versatile amd doesn't cover up any mistakes and/or sloppyness. they currently have to use my old spider 2... not a very good thing to practice with.
@martinitime1975
8 жыл бұрын
+givemeajackson I couldn't tell you about the clone bit, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pedals. I just know I like those Joyo mini pedals and I saw it on Hennig's youtube channel. It has a high-low knob which changes the sound dramatically, the high being more open and louder, while the low being more compressed. In fact, I'm receiving the Space Reverb today, can't wait to try it out. I also have the Quatro delay which has some dandy effects, like a chorus or wah just on the repeats, not on the original tone.

I bought this forever ago just for a D.I, or late night Headphone playing. Just this Sunday I went looking for a portable tube combo (8" speaker, that sort of thing). Of course everything is discontinued, except the little 8" Cabinet that was built for this sucker as in the store. As soon as I plugged in I was thrilled! The Cabinet speaker is still stiff as a board, but it didn't bother me one bit. I haven't even plugged my Pedal board in yet, b/c I was just enjoying the Direct in of this little guy. 4 by 12" cabinet? Are you kidding? This little sucker will have your Drummer yelling at you to turn it down just w/ the 8" Cab using a Clean tone! Jams, Apartment, even gigs...I may be leaving my AD-15 at home more than I should!

I've been searching far and wide for the answer to this question of mine... Is it okay to put 16ohm cab to a minimum 8ohm amp? According to you sir at least Micro Dark can be put up like that, but does that apply to every amp that states that the min. load is 8ohm?
@josephbrandenburg4373
8 жыл бұрын
I think that's how it works, there are articles on the internet that explain it. I read them before but my memory's kinda hazy. From what I understand, lower resistance speakers are louder but take more power. Also, chaining speakers together (in series) lowers the ohms. I think.
@ampturcoguitarwerks
6 жыл бұрын
Yes that is okay. Your amp is asking for a minimum of 8ohms and your giving it 16ohms so you have satisfied the minimum and are only one step above. You should never go in reverse. So if your amp is 8ohms do not give it a 4ohm cabinet. One step above is always safe. I wouldn’t venture more than one step above. Cheers!

Does the Micro Dark amp have as good clean and low gain-crunch sounds like the Micro Terror? Or the Micro Terror is better at cleans and low-gain sounds and the Micro Dark is better for distorted sounds? Is Micro Dark a more versatile Micro Terror, or they are two completely different amps? I am going to buy one of these two amps, and i need to know if with the Micro Dark i'll be able to get these great low-gain classic sounds of the Micro Terror, or not! Great vid by the way!

+cpasi cpase hi, I had the exact same concerns as you, you probably saw and read enough now to know, Micro DT pretty much outperforms the Micro, both for clean and distortion. You could use both amps, if needed, but if getting just one now, get the dark. The dark's cleans in videos I heard sounded way better, almost H&K-ish but better, warmer. I'm going to use it in a stereo setup, depending on how it sounds, probably for the main dry right side. You need 2 amps, two speaker cabs, and a pedal that splits your signal to do this. Good Luck!

In the end I wasn`t sure if I should tap into the Scorpion Speaker with this as the Combo outputs 4 Ohm on the back and the SPeaker was not marked so couldn`t be sure if the actual speaker was 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm as I`ve found replacement Scorpions on the net. The Micro Dark needs a min of 8 Ohm attached to it so didn`t wanna risk it. The Micro Dark was great on it`s own through the big 1960A Cab and even better with a Tube Screamer Pedal being used at a light gain setting on the pedal before the Amp Distortion. Also an EQ accross the send/rtn loop of the Micro Dark added more tonal possabilities. In the end I had a spare 1 x 12 solid backed Combo in storage that I replaced it`s speaker on to a GT-75( same as in my 1960A cab ) and I`m now running the Micro Dark through that compact cab straight to the Speaker, sounds great ( am also using an EQ on send/rtn again and a Screamer on a low gain setting, no other fancy overdrive/Distortion pedals needed )

It's probably a Class D out put amp like the mico terror so you don't lose the tube harmonics. Depending on the topology, any switching or crossover transistor distortion is at a high frequency and is filtered out. Class AB solid state, the crossover distortion or any other is at the same frequency as what you hear and can't be filtered out and pointless to put a valve pre before them.
