Has anyone ever pondered the possibility that Hunt took Jimmy on board soley because he knew Jimmy had connections to Bernie Silver and Hunt wanted to get into Soho? That this is the only reason why Hunt got pally with Jimbob, and after getting into Soho and not needing old Jimmy anymore, Hunt put him on the backburner.

I've heard Canning Town in East London, mentioned many times in regards to well known criminals, considering that it's a fairly small part of London, it seems to have been quite a hotbed of organised crime. Probably due to the area being a dockland district, which often attracted criminal groups having access to millions of pounds worth of goods and products (like tobacco, spirits, expensive raw materials and finished goods) stored and distributed from hundreds of ships and miles of huge warehouses, yards, depots and wharves etc). Liverpool and other big ports like Hull, Cardiff, Newcastle, etc all had large scale theft of the cargoes. Dockers and the crewmembers worked together to operate in criminal activities, compared to factory workers, coal miners, construction workers etc, it was easier for the dockers and seamen to steal from their workplaces.

I've just watched the last five minutes of The Long Good Friday. Bob Hoskins' silent acting in the back of that black cab is among the greatest pieces of acting that I have ever seen. Rivaled only by Kim Bodnia's equally breathtaking silent acting in the last five minutes of Danish crime flick, Pusher, where, coincidentally, those last five minutes also take place in a taxi, only this time in 1990s Copenhagen. Bob's portrayal of East End gang Lord Harold Shand, coming to the realisation that he's played the game and lost, is absolutely mesmerising. His facial expressions run the gamut, from suprise, to fear, to bristling anger, to resignation and finally, acceptance of his fate. Truly, thesping of the very highest calibre. I can't imagine Jimmy, or even DH himself being this good, if they were in the same situation. Although, I can't help but believe that Roy DeMeo would have *gone out* that way ....

@Mr P I think it’s a combination of factors . If you recall Gillard’s article in the Upsetter about the Arnold & Gooderham murder the informant suggested DH had “ Old Bill wrapped around him “ and also a senior officer also got involved to tell officers to ignore the informants intel about the two named suspects in the double murder . Bear in mind that was a double murder of two civilians in an extremely brutal way, and for a corrupt senior officer to get involved tells us the levels at which they were able to corrupt at . The met will be aware of this and therefore won’t want the embarrassment of having to investigate it and risk yet more scandal . Then we have DH being given a tug by the taxman and being able to negotiate a sweetheart deal to pay a fixed amount , which is peanuts compared to what he should have to pay . Then we have Jimmy teaching DH about tax havens and if I remember rightly the Panama Papers revealed that DH had a company set up in Panama . What all this tells me is , that in the early days of the Holmes Hunt relationship , DH and Sh were in indeed very crude and unsophisticated in the way they operated but learnt very quick . DH may not be able to read or write very well but he is shrewd and very cunning . A combination of appalling violence , police corruption , and a sprinkling of good luck have kept DH out of of jail

Whatever money he had made would have been snorted away years ago, and DH doesn't sound like a forgiving man. What the book says that he did to the builder making a friendly comment or the family friend who sold his land rover, proves that. And Holmes did much worse. @@BEN.B. They're cockney gangsters, Ben. Trust me, they're not that powerful. They most certainly aren't *Lacosa Nostra* and little jimmy, or DH and his family, are most certainly not Roy DeMeo or Calibre Men like Roy, such as Sonny Black Napolitano or Joe Gallo.

@Mr Brier The thing is, if DH is the way that Jimmy describes, it would never be old news. Jimmy has stolen 200k from him, exposed him to the press, massively humiliated him, and just all around taken the piss. @Mr Brier After reading JP, I envisaged DH being like Paul Bettany's Young Gangster in 90s film Gangster No 1. But now I think that Jimmy just made loads of stuff up, and exaggerated, to almost Old Testament biblical proportions, the unpleasentness of DH.

You can be who you like on fb. Not only that, but you can set up multiple profiles if you wanted to. A lot of people join fb specifically to follow their intrersets/hobbies etc by joining groups. People who use fb for that purpose alone, more often than not sign up with a profile name as opposed to their real name. By doing that, it gives you the anonymity and freedom to follow your interests without interruption. One thing I wish he'd been asked is a breakdown of drug importation and sales. As in, how much profit is made per shipment and then how much money they get per year and the process of laundering it. Also a sense of the money they get from their legitimate front companies. You hear of £100m+ shipments being seized and stuff, but I think it's hard to assess the amount of money being made by the upper echelons of organised criminality. I often take the figures bandied about in the media with a pinch of salt, so to hear Jimmy's take on it would have given me a figure I could believe.

One of the few remaining characters from Jimmy Holmes's books to be identified was Rasher from the Charity Committee book. Jimmy met Rasher in Ford Open Prison sometime in the early to mid nineties, whilst Jimmy was incarcerated for mortgage fraud. It has been touted that Rasher is a mash up of a few real life villains, namely Freddie Forman and Roy Garner. Indeed, Roy Garner did have a book written about him in 1990, by authors who some would describe as Wapping Weasels, which featured a picture of Roy with Bob Monkhouse (mentioned earlier in the comments). Jimmy describes Rasher as a legend in the criminal game, a top man in the English puff game and a proper gentleman to boot, totally old school with his word being his bond, and with the properest peter on A wing... ...and running the Charity coup on the inside. A documentary about Ford Open Prison filmed in 1994 or 1995 has been uploaded which reveals a man named James Collis, convicted of smuggling puff serving 36 months, which would overlap with Jimmy's time in Ford. James Collis fits the description of Rasher better than anyone else in my view, and the odds of anyone else running such a Charity coup and living in relative luxury on A wing is extremely slim to none. You be the judge: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0Kasr5xsk6Z4mWksi=xyDojGq1Fps0Ucsy

If DH is this monstrous, all powerful psychopath that people make out, kind of like a real life version of Paul Bettany's character in Gangster No1, with his axes and bag of chisels etc, then how come one of the sons of the men he's killed haven't come along and took him out? People that evil accrue a lot of hate towards them, yet he's still here. And why would such a Master Criminal use a Yardie to kill some cops? It makes no sense. Wouldn't he have used his connections to bring over an ex IRA man, or some killer from Eastern Europe? And Michael Gillard. DH must hate him. Gillard still writes about him now on Twitter etc. Surely, if DH was this Stalin of gangsters, he'd have done something about Gillard? Like I say, it makes no sense.

It’s possible that none of the sons of the men he’s supposedly killed are capable of a hit. He may also be well looked after and have people passing along any intelligence on a potential hit. Was the man a yardie? I thought it said that he was a former sniper in the British army? If he went after Gillard then he would have the media after him and that’s something a person in organised crime doesn’t want. You don’t want more journalists digging into your past and business. He says that in the Bug heist they “bust into the warehouse and laid everyone down” . This is as described in the Spud heist in the book . However he say that this is the bug heist . BUT in the book , The Bug is by himself when they take him away (as his bodyguard Skinny O’Neil isn’t with him) . Could that be because he’s coked up in this interview or he’s trying to distance himself from the spud heist to save his own skin (apparently that heist involved some major players who’d have taken major revenge if they knew who done it , I think Charlie Wilson & Tommy Wisbey were a couple of names thrown into the mix regarding that importation)

So the question now is: Is the Jimmy Holmes chapter now closed? He hasn't posted on any of his social media accounts in years, he just left them open and untouched. If he had gone to ground, witness protection or called a truce then surely he would have deleted the social media accounts, or made them private. I don't believe the third book he was supposedly writing called "The Boy Who Kicked The Nonces Nest" will ever be released. His Solicitor also died a year or so ago, so any secrets or last testaments Jimmy may have left won't be coming to light. Jimmy most likely died from a health condition. I'm going to hazard a guess that the years of drug and alcohol abuse were not kind to his body. I can't see many more books coming out about the Canning town firm as DH seems to sue anyone who writes about him. I do check this comment section occasionally to find out any new information but I feel like we are now picking scarps of off a carcass. Todays organised crime is very different. It is done on social media and out in the open, mainly by the younger generation. And it's primarily foreign organised crime groups/clans. I think the reason many of us found organised crime so interesting back in Jimmy's day is because it was kept on the low and done in the shadows with corrupt police, politicians, business men and media. The dark mysteriousness has all but gone. Maybe a bombshell will be released in the next decade or two. We shall see.

New theory here. In Judas Pig Jimmy describes DH beating up a contractor who'd been working on the Morleys for him. It takes place according to Jimmy sometime in 1993. The three of them are in a car driving through Essex. The contractor makes the mistake of trying to be chummy with DH, by telling him that he's much more chilled out now he's at the Morelys. That he used to be so uptight. DH allegedly orders Jimmy to pull over, then gets the contractor out of the car before beating him badly and leaving him by the side of the road. Now this is my new theory. Arnold and Gooderham had been murdered just over two years before. What if having this hanging over him had caused him to be stressed etc. And what if it wasn't DH who'd done the shooting, but in fact it was Jimmy who'd pulled the trigger? I say this because it's well known that DH loves women. Jimmy doesn't. I don't see DH executing a woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I do see him being very affected by it. And what if it's in this one case that gives Jimmy an immunity from DH's wrath. Jimmy has some kind of evidence that will incriminate DH into being there, but in a kind of Mexican Stand-off situation, he can't use it, no matter how much he hates DH, because it will incriminate Jimmy as the man who fired the gun.

People say that DH is the winner in all this. I think I disagree. I think Billy Jacobs is. He draws no attention, 99% of people (including myself) have never seen a picture of him, he’s been complicit (allegedly) in some very nasty stuff, as far as i no served no jail time and I presume done very well for himself financially, then rode off into the sunset.....

Only ever seen that one pic of him with Martin bowers. Very unassuming looking but big framed as well. Jimmy must have been odd one out. Think he owns/owned scape Metal firm and his brother was a pro footballer but can’t remember which team he played for. I want to say West Ham but could be wrong

The copy of JP I have lists “ Ronnie “ as the 4th member of their firm and not a Billy . I thought Ronnie was dh brother and the 4th member but in actual fact it is Billy Jacobs who is the 4th member

Can anyone recommend some recent books on British organised crime? I have read Judas pig, CC and legacy. I’m interested in learning about how crime has changed and how foreign gangs are now operating within England (london). Liverpool is another city in England that has sophisticated organised crime, but because it’s not the capital it tends to get overlooked. They’re nearly on par with London when it comes to organised crime.

The Cartel and Young Blood by Graham Johnson basically cover the rise of the Liverpool gangs over 40 years. Peter Walsh's Drug Wars also maps out the rise of most of the UK gangs.

Organised atoms theres a good book coming out in early feb next year think it might get a spread about it in some of the papers before its release all absolutely true with a lot deleted but a different angle than your normal gangster bio reads more like a film more Midlands based but there are some loose links to London

@London Boy the old man and me its written by the son of a career criminal i think its out to pre order its written a bit like film more than a biography but all true with names changed for the normal reasons. The Nottingham lot have history of going after people who write things look what happened to fellstrom after hoods
