The lyricist believes that this song is a blessing by lord Guruvayurappan himself. He prefers to believe that lord himself recited those lyrics, and he only penned the lyrics.
It happened during an annual celebration of Guruvayur temple three and half decades back. Shri. Chowaloor Krishnankutty happened to meet music composer Shri. T S Radhakrishnaji at Guruvayur temple, quite incidentally in front of Lord Krishna inside main temple. Radhakrishnaji was at Guruvayur to perform a devotional music concert as a part of the temple’s annual festival celebrations. Casually Chowaloor asked Radhakrishnaji if he is willing to sing a devotional sing written by him. Though it was a joke by Chowaloor, to his surprise Radhakrishnaji asked him to bring song. As the matter reached a serious knot, Chowaloor took a room at nearby Jayasree Lodge and spent a few moments in mediation before he started writing. Pallavi of the song came to his mind like a flash, and he completed the song within one hour . He approached Radhakrishnaji with his song and within moments the composer tuned the song and sang before Chowaloor. Radhakrishnaji too believes that tune of Oru neramenkilum was given by none other than Lord Guruvayurappan himself. The song, which bore the signature of God, was tuned in Dwijavanti ragam, a rare ragam in Carnatic music.
In the music concert held same night, Radhakrishnaji presented the song before the audience and among all the songs he sang that night, he received most appreciation for Oru Neramenkilum. Hence, an evergreen devotional song was born at Guruvayur Temple. May be destiny. The song writer later certified that though he wrote more than 3500 devotional songs, it is this particular song which changed his life and brought him immense success.
Later, the song was recorded in Shri K J Yesudas’ voice for Tharangini Cassettes and is still being enjoyed by millions of Krishna devotees. The Cassette was titled 'Thulasi Theertham' by him. The song is equally loved by the present generation. A song written, composed and sung for the first time in front of Guruvayurappan had nothing short of Lord Krishna’s blessings.
Here, Radhakrishnaji along with his team presented the song at the Vasai Fine Arts Festival, 2020.
