Wow, with an unexpected upset like that, Oscar was probably angry enough to kill somebody.

"there is a lot more to running that stride length. If all it took was big strides, then the running world would be dominated by the tallest men, and shorter runners like Tyson Gay would stand no chance. What matters is not just stride length, or height, but rather the length of the leg relative to height, and the ground contact length, which is a function of the leg length (partly). Plus there is force applied to the ground, leg turnover rates and all those things"

I don't know anything about blade lengths ... but man, the Brazilian's acceleration seemed crazy fast compared to everyone else ...more than just putting on the gas ... both rock in my book!

Pistorius was a sore loser. This was when the sport commentators came to know a darker side of him. Who would know he would later turn into a killer... I followed the trial and her is the worst narcissist ever.

I knew none of this. Reading the appeals the judges say he is a murderer because he didn't fire any warning shots. Stated by Judge Leach. Here, any warning shots would make you a murderer. lol

"Pistorius was a sore loser." Yup, seems like. I read him saying "unfair advantage through the lengthening of their prostheses" written in some article about tech in sports. Arguments why he couldn't run with people without mechanical advantage attached to their legs and him saying others being smarter using better tech than him... Same arguments it seems. Is he right? Dunno, but at least everyone could modify their running tools for an advantage. Much harder to do with flesh and blood and if you do it's called P.E.D. and you get booted. lol

Why are people still talking about these two as if this is now some sort of rivalry. Their placings in the subsequent races, including the 100 in which neither of them medalled and particularly Pistorius' annihilation of the entire field in the 400, clearly demonstrated the mere fluke that this was.

Pistorius is just too ashamed to admit he did an early celebration. Watch this video carefully again at 1:25 or 20.5 on the clock Pistorius with no one visually close to him thinks he's dusted everyone and slows his cadence down ever so slightly with the finish line in sight. That is why it appears as though Oliviera is suddenly on turbo, its because Pistorius slowed down his stride rate early. Its sour grapes and trying to cover up humiliating himself by underestimating his opponent.

all this argument over whether or not "longer blades" give an advantage serves to highlight just how absurd it is to take paralympics seriously. If you can't run without artificial or technological assistance, then you're not a runner.

Alan's longer blades don't give him a longer stride length though. That would be the obvious assumption to make (and the assumption even Oscar made until he, like everyone else, watched the race back). What longer blades do is give you greater impact off the track and that accounts for extra speed. However, with blades that are far too long for his thigh, he is doing himself damage and may have already done permanent damage to his hamstring. Whoever is advising this buy is misguided and selfish.

it's not an unfair race at all, longer strides = slower turnover. Oscar sounds like one of those ignorant fools who thinks Bolt's only fast because of his height, when the true reason is because he has the best combination of stride length and frequency, same case here. Not to mention Oscar's qualifier of 21.3 would've won the final
@phastman

You said his blades being longer give him an unfair advantage, and the one advantage the comes with longer blades would obviously be stride length, but stride length alone doesnt give anyone an unfair advantage, its about stride length x stride frequency
