My name is Cory and I am a small town artist making environmental and ecological inspired artwork. In this video I document and talk about the ideas behind my latest artwork titled Our Stele. I use concrete, recycled plastic, and typography to imagine and compare the story of human past and future.
Stele (or sometimes stela or stelae) are generally upright tablets or stone sculptures and reliefs that serve as commemoration, grave markers, boundary markers, and milestones. They can be found in numerous ancient civilizations and cultures and inspired this project.
Some interesting reference material and inspiration I used includes...
How to Study Architecture by Charles Caffin (1917)
Tulum: An Archaeological Study of The East Coast of Yucatan by S. K. Lothrop (1924)
Stele I by Ellswoth Kelly (1973): www.sfmoma.org...
Tor Und Stele by Gunther Forg (1994): www.sculpturei...

A bit of commentary...
This is only my fourth KZitem video, but I have decided to try and make shorter and more minimalist videos. That's more my style after all! I'm going to try and treat these like a journal companion to my studio work, instead of the documentary/vlog style I have previously tried. So, like this video, in the future I am going to try and not add music tracks or time lapses. Just stick to jump-cuts, voice over, and captions. Thanks!
