I've been using a $20 Hamilton Beach stick for a few years. It has the standard blender attachment, a whisk attachment that can make small amounts of whipped cream in under two minutes, and a small food processor attachment (fully enclosed) for making pesto, bread crumbs, salsa, etc. All three attachments were included in the $20 model. It has two speed buttons, and you hold one of them down to operate it. I've never had trouble taking it apart, and it's never come apart during operation.

@@teklife I only have one little nitpick about it. The whisk whisks. The immersion blender blends. But the mini food processor is a little disappointing on hard cheeses in the particular model I have. You can certainly grate hard cheeses instead, but I find that tiny spheres often give a better aesthetic than fast-melting rasped cheese. The spheres are typically made in a blender or food processor. But for some reason (the sharpness of the blade and/or the speed) it's just really hard to get nice small spheres. They tend to come out at about 1/16", whereas 1/32" would be ideal. I think the blade is the culprit. On a typical food processor, you have to be really careful handling and cleaning the blade, because it's usually scary sharp. Even if you bring your pay-attention level up to a 6 or 7, you might still cut yourself. On mine, I've never been cut, and frankly I'm at a 4 or 5 in the carefulness.

But for many, there may be a first evaluation of heavy duty vs small quick light available for the home kitchen (that's what Test Kitchen has chosen here). So you need to know what you want that tool to do. I'm replacing some blenders because the manufacturer has compromised heavy duty, strength, longevity for the lighter, quieter plastic-nylon gears. That first heavy blender may be heavy because it has stronger, heavy duty metal gears and superior internal copper wire windings in the motor.

Mmm I've checked out the website, and the Vitamix $150 has minimal attachments and the additional attachments are kind of pricy. A whisk attachment (not included?! / $20) and a food processor attachment ($50) will bring the price up to $220. At that price range you have the Braun 9, which comes with more attachments and a comparable wattage. But if I'm wrong, please do tell. I'm trying to decide myself. The Breville All-in-one gets unfairly dunked in this review on IMO, as it is very well built and comes with a fantastic kit if you want to save space. It comes with a 6 Cup Food Processor attachment (with chopper, slicer, and grater blades) that can take the place of your food processor for the same countertop footprint. That's why its variable speed dial is important. But I'd also have to disagree with the review in that I find variable speed very useful and use it all the time. When puree'ing small amounts of food, or thick pastes, for example, using too high a speed will just expel the food out of the blade well. Using a lower speed helps break down the food without displacing it. It's also useful for doing the initial break down of large chunks when you're trying to cream soups or make cashew cream, as lower speeds not only create less risk of splashing when it's still in a watery + chunky state, but they also don't create such a strong vacuum force that pulls the blender towards the bottom, allowing you to "stir" the blender around and to homogenously break down all the chunks and then you can move up to higher speeds when "stirring" with the blender is no longer necessary and you're just going to keep the blender in one place so the vacuum effect isn't as much of an issue.

Tor, have you got a bamix? I’ve been considering getting one, but then there’s some fairly mixed reviews out there. Adam mentions this at 0:54 _“some of these the wands fell right off into the other ones the ones wouldn’t come off at all so they were horrible to clean…”_ And I can’t looked at the Cook’s Illustrated review (as it’s behind a paywall and I don’t live in the US so would it be much use to me?), but in the preview they say this: _“Another model’s wand didn’t detach, also a no-go.”_ www.cooksillustrated.com/articles/382-testing-immersion-blenders Wirecutter are a bit more forgiving: _“That said, more expensive models (such as those by Bamix) and those made for commercial use typically have wands that don’t come off. In part, the fixed wands may be why these pro-grade blenders tend to be more durable than home models; they simply have fewer pieces that can break._ _“In testing, we found that it had a comfortable handle and easy-to-push buttons, but sadly the blender failed to create a great vortex and therefore was notably slow in blending soup and smoothies. Surprisingly, it was the worst in our puree test, leaving a ton of fiber in the sieve.”_ thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-immersion-blender/ Saying all that, it really doesn’t seem that much of a bother to clean and it can be immersed all the way up to the handle. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rJyOzGqLfoBph4I

I'm here with bad arthritis, implants in fingers, and I'm not saying my age. I'm looking for an immersion blender with an On and Off power button, speed dial great. If a tool that I use brings pain to my hands, I find another tool. Do you know of any immersion blenders that have this feature. I gave my old Braun blender to my daughter, it had all the features I'm trying to find in stainless steel, I'm trying to get away from plastics. I'm old, I'm retired, but I love to cook. Tell the testers to think of the older teenagers with impairments when they test products. I love all the Ladies at ATK and Cooks Country, especially Co Lam. Thank you for any help, I got tied of searching websites, my days are numbered and searching is no fun. Willie

Yea sorry, but any comparison that isn't "sponsored by" whichever cheap plastic junk is declared the winner, and also doesn't include Bamix, I simply wont take seriously.

I see you again on your website don’t allow access to the runner’s up unless we buy a subscription or get a free trial. That just makes me leery to buy your “winner” product.

Ill back you up on this, thier website design doesnt even let me make an account. Sure ill even give them access to all my user data with all the extensions they have on their website but like Holy Crap I cant even enter my email.

Have you updated this test to include the Vitamix immersion blender since it's come out?

That's way too expensive I wish they had shown the Cuisinart brand they used to have that on Costco for only 29 dollars on sale it looked very solid and came with all the attachments and jars, it looked very solid too. Cuisinart is supposed to be a good brand .

@@awakeandalive4248 I have that Cuisinart from Costco. It's just OK. The chopper isn't big enough and it doesn't chop all that great. And the immersion blender is only 300 watts. It's OK for the money but can't do a lot of things.

Love the equipment reviews, always have. I just glanced and quickly counted six products I bought based on ATK recommendations. That said, my immersion blender is less than good but since I use it maybe once a year, a dusty Christmas gift it will remain. 🙂

The turbo button probably is most advantageous when the blender is under load and not free spinning

Is Braun model MQ535 similar to MQ505 in terms of design and performance?

If I ever get three wishes, I'm going back in time. Right before atk recommends a product, I'll swoop in and get it before the price skyrocket. I could wish to own them, but it's the principle of the matter 😕

How much did Braun pay for this ad? I like watching and hearing from actual chefs or testers, and seeing the blenders being used. After this ad I most likely will not buy Braun and spend the extra 150 dollars and go with Bamix.

Why pick one that doesn't have a softer tip? Metal tipped can easily damage a nonstick coated pot. 🤷

This is sad only one product was recommended and no others really pointed out. The most important part is how the motor is going to cope with things in the long run.

They didn't test any so how is that a test? I have a bella with detachable to change to a whisker and i like it, my girlfriend have small hands and its easy for her to use and the hand blender doesn't weight much. Please show the products being used instead of talking about them.
