This video demonstrates why I'm subscribed to this channel. I'm also looking to get into trucking after school, and these facts and real life experience are really invaluable. Thanks as always for sharing what you know. Keep up the great work.

This is one of the most specific videos I've seen so far about this subject. Very detail in lots of area including the truck part which I haven't seen covered in detail yet and I have seen lots of videos. I'm down and out and looking for something new to do so thanks a lot..

the owner of the truck always gets 100% of the fuel surcharge, unless the agent who gave him/her the load decided to keep it. before booking a load i always ask about the split (fuel surcharge versus line haul). agents get their percentage off the line haul only, so the more fuel surcharge they give to the driver the LESS money the agents make. sometimes when the load is really hot, agents can throw in more money by adding a 'tarp charge' or other 'accidentals' that go 100% to the driver.

it was definitely a more attractive field when diesel cost 75 cents per liter in Canada (1.19 now) or 2.85 per gallon in US (3.85 now)! the pay per mile has NOT changed!

that's good too. with a 5 ton truck you're not going to make the same money as with a tractor trailer but both the fuel bill and stress level will be much lower.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, it was very common to buy what they called "glider kits." You would just get the cab and chassis and then put your motor, tranny and rear ends onto it. This is a good way to go if your motor is good.

i just did my books for june and i wanted to do a vid on this, but the numbers were not accurate as a part of the month was already reported in may. i'll see what my numbers are in july. 4K sounds doable, i was just kidding about 'profit'. still no word about my new trailer. the dealer is amazing: they told me it takes only 5 days to build the trailer and it went on the conveyor on June 10th, and the dealer says they haven't heard anything from the factory yet. it's 6/29 now :(

i just found out an interesting thing: turns out it's possible to buy a whole new cab with a sleeper (brand new) for $5K. the description says, "International 9200 9400 51" Pro Sleeper Low Roof Cab with 2 Piece Flat Windshield'. The sleeper is shorter and lower but the insides should be all brand new. Why this is interesting is because to repaint my cab costs at least $6,000. Here you can get a brand new (painted) cab for $5K.

Hey Sergei, I have a couple of questions for you. My friend and I are planning on investing on a freightliner and our budget is 12k. Our other friend is not investing with money but he is providing his clietns, warehouse and equipment. He said as soon as we buy (financed) the freightliner it will start working. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks

Expedite freight pays some of the highest rates in the industry, but if you're a rookie, they won't consider you. You probably could gross $150k to $200 depending on what you haul, but the experience factor and the stress may make it not worth it. In expedited freight, you're only doing hot shot loads. So you might rest a week, then have to drive 11 hour days for three days straight to get a load to its destination. And most of the loads are really high value, so security is another concern.

wouldn't a three year break make your chances to find a job in the science field much harder than now? imagine an interview where you have to show your resume and the only work experience you have is TRUCKER. i'd find something part-time; i know a bunch of guys that drive company trucks part-time because they're retired and they don't want any hassles with owning equipment. they do 1-2 trips per month and they're happy.

Sergei, you're such a genuine person that actually provides great legitimate information for people like myself looking into becoming an owner operator. I wanted to personally thank you for your videos and look forward to more. Be safe out there and keep trucking.

I think you can save on the truck quite a bit if you're handy. I see decent semi's for $5-7k from time to time. California is a good place to get them cheap, everybody's going out of business there.

The best way to make good money in this business is to be a team. You get the hot freight and great pay.

Hmm. But then wouldn't you still have to paint something? And also, does it include an interior? Some of those are just shells. And how about installation costs? That is interesting.

the message didn't say what field he studied and what diploma he got. but i'd feel sad to spend all that time and then go into a totally unrelated field. i think he should choose a field where his diploma/education can give him an edge - an opportunity to make more money. as trucker he'd be starting from scratch - as if he only has a high school diploma and ZERO experience and training.

Hi Sergei, Do you do any vids in Russian? Do you have anything to share about owning/operating a Sprinter van?

I have a few Russian videos. I used to drive a cargo van but that was long time ago. Cannot provide any advice other than what's in my OWNER OPERATOR BIBLE ebook: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Y1uv32Ye4eciI4. To find Russian videos, type 'RUSSIAN' in the Search Window when you're inside my channel kzitem.info.

5 weeks pay You net $9500. Teamster 60 hours per week about $1440 per week x 5 = $7700 in the pocket plus no truck repairs (your free time) 100% company paid family healthcare worth $1850 plus 3 paid holidays plus retirement. I used to be an owner operator the money is just not there for what you have to put up with. Granted you might not want to put up with what I do either. I am still waiting for the day when the so called driver shortage really improves pay for all of us.

+Dark wing Right now nothing pays 4 bucks a mile ;) It's a bad time of year. Otherwise, you'd do well to hook up your truck to a step deck, flatbed, double drop or lowboy.

you're figuring 6 miles per gallon? well there's your problem there. i average 7.5. an extra 1.5 mpg over 10000 miles is an extra 12 or 1300 bucks. over an entire year, you're looking at an extra 15 grand in your pocket.

.42 cpm Company, what planet is that? Try .29 newbie. Landstar shaves 35% from average $2/mile so you get $1.3 in the end. This is coming from a 7yr Landstar driver. I am going OO with authority and not paying LS 35%, also getting own trailer dry van.
@BrokeTheGamer

TMC starts at .42 right out of school or 26%, you choose. They currently get a linehaul of 1.96, so 26% of that plus $25 to tarp.

Alan Fernandez stay away from trucks made between 2008 and 2012. that's all i can think of ;) don't expect to make much profit, if you just pull a dry van trailer. either a reefer or step deck or tanker would bring in more money. you have to specialize.
