The main reason of going with the M726EL 11R22.5 - it'll allow me to increase speed at the same RPM and put fun back into trucking. It's a bigger tire and the end of the truck will raise by 0.8" inches compared to the front (the front has a 295R22.5 tire). This tire spins at 492 revs/mile and with my 3.58 axle ratio and 0.73 top gear ratio I'll now be doing: 60 mph at 1,285 rpm, 62.15 mph at 1,331 rpm, and 65 mph at 1,293 rpm. Will have to stop by the CAT dealer next door to adjust the ECM :)

When you buy an OVERWEIGHT PERMIT, most US states allow a 3 axle truck and 3 axle trailer to have 12K on the front axle, 40K on the truck's tandem, and 60K on the trailer's tridem. Or: 112,000 Lbs MINUS the weight of the truck and trailer. My truck is only 20,500 lb fully fueled and with all the straps and chains. The new 3 axle trailer will weigh around 13,500 lbs. So, 112K - 13.5K - 20,5K = 78K. Which means that with a PERMIT I should be able to haul up to 78,000 LBS.

it's the same as when you buy a car. depends on the financial company. i think they can stretch it to 72 months, but then you're upside down if - let's say - after 3 years you want to sell it. the retail value of the truck will be LESS than what you owe to the financial company.

When I was 10 years old, me and my buddies would walk 2 miles to the nearest freeway and just sit in the grass and watch transport trucks go by. The game we played was called THIS WILL BE MY TRUCK. The rules were simple ;) - when you saw a big truck that you liked you said, "I'm going to drive that truck when I grow up." The local airport was 1.5 miles from my house but for some reason we preferred to watch trucks, not airplanes.

my experience so far: 1) windshield wipers can drive you nuts! i changed the dashboard switch, i changed the motor, and still sometimes you have to push the switch 20 times to change the mode from more frequent motion to less frequent. Another thing that the engine started doing recently is poor starting (new alternator, new batteries!): if I wait till the gauges complete the test sweep, the engine is reluctant to start. now I just turn the key all the way to START and there's no problems.

I'm sitting at the McDonald's next to the truck stop where my truck is parked. Agenda: get the authorization code from LCAPP at Landstar for the purchase of 8 (eight) new tires. Across the street is the OK TIRE where the job will be done. Approval for so many tires takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. Then I just give the code to the tire shop and Landstar starts deducting the money from my pay till all's paid. The tire is going to be Bridgestone M726EL with 32/32 tread. This one lasts forever.

If you watched my vids I did during this winter, you'll remember I got stuck quite a few times with the current drive tire - Yokohama RY023 295/75R22.5 tire. It's basically a trailer tire and the only reason I put it on was to see if I can improve my fuel mileage. It did improve the MPG a little bit but it has poor traction in winter; it wears out fast and it's too small. I had 1,370 RPM at 60 MPH which my CAT doesn't like too much.

i have a payment of $530 coming out of my account every month. I get the Sales Tax portion back but still .. that's 6 grand a year. this is something I bought for my old 48' stepdeck trailer and the financing was for 5 (!) years. I no longer have the trailer, I no longer have the 'thing' I borrowed the money for, and I'm still paying for it. The good news is the contract ends in January 2015. THAT will be a good time to get a brand new truck, maybe a 2016 model...

I agree, stay out of debt. If anything, start paying yourself the monthly amount you would the trucking company or bank to build up your down payment. Those 70,000 lbs loads would only be for one piece non-divisible load with permit. You max for a regular load of assorted items will be 62,000 to maybe 65,000, you will need scale each axle with your new trailer. Come winter, you will haul less due to extra chains and counting for snow build up under trailer. Coming from USA, max 46,000-48,000

i heard of many horror stories with lease purchases through the carrier. it's never a good idea. when carriers try to make money on leasing you equipment, there's always a conflict of interests, kinda.. better get your truck from a dealer. keep the truck payment as far away as possible from the carrier's payslips. sorry about your experience. i drive for landstar and we have no dispatch so i can take time-off anytime i want, as long as i do at least 1 load a month. percentage pay is the best.

painting the truck is not a necessity nor having a new truck. if it aint brook dont fix it but maintain your truck regularly. the main core of your business is moving the best profitable loads from point A to B. and save your painting money for a newer second truck or for your major maintenance. yet you can spray paint anything yourself.

I'd find an area where your knowledge of trucking is to your advantage: truck mechanic, freight broker, dispatcher - that is if you are looking for other jobs. OR: buy a cheap used truck, cheap used trailer, and put your name on the door and start driving for yourself. money can be pretty good, especially if you have a specialized trailer.

I want to change the drive tire size. the one i'm using now does 520 revs/mile and I"m at 1,358 RPM at 60 MPH. CAT recommends 1,325 at 65 MPH. The new tire I have in mind comes in 2 sizes: 295/75R22.5 (507 revs/mi) or 11R22.5 (492 rev/mi). If I put on the low profile tire (295..), the truck will do 60 MPH at 1,325 RPM; 62.15 9 MPH (100 km/h) at 1,372 RPM, and 65 MPH at 1,435 RPM. If I put on the 11R22.5s, I'll do 60 MPH at 1,285 RPM; 62.15 MPH at 1,331 RPM, and 65 MPH at 1.392 RPM. Any advice?

My grandparents came from Ukraine. Well, after WWII they were let out of the camps that they were in, reunited and came to the United States. It's funny that you're in Canada, because they first decided that they were going to move to Canada, not the United States. But for whatever reason they changed their mind. They changed their name slightly too when they came over. Changed a vowel, I forget from what to what. To sound more "American", if you will. So their last name became "Taran". I believe it might have been Toran or something similar before.

You make a lot more as owner operator. 150K bare minimum before expenses. If you're smart and determined there are many who can make 200-250K. Roll that money into better equipment and get paid 1.5-2x that with b-trains. Keep rolling that wad and you could even have someone drive a second truck for you or find a good partner and roll that truck 6000 miles a week. You can make it happen if its what you want.
