If you've studied abusive relationships or bullying in children, it'll all rhyme--"I can't free myself from them or stop them, but I can cheer them on while they hurt someone else *instead of me.* If I'm on their side, that will protect me." It doesn't, in the long run, but people in abusive situations don't think in the long run; they think in terms of keeping their abuser happy--and frequently become abusers themselves to people who are even less able to defend themselves.

Yep, it's a vicious cycle where the victim is forced to focus on short-term survival since they can't afford to think long-term. Otherwise, they get abused. However, sooner or later, they get so good at staying in the good graces of their abuser that they start to respect them and even value how their abusers "operate"

There are exceptions, but yes and I despise how common a response it is since both me and my sister faced the same kind of bullying at school. She chose to assimilate, I chose to fight back (which got me in trouble but eh, worth it). I prefered being alone, feared (because of my violent retalliation to the bullies) and thus respected enough to be left alone rather than further tormented. It was always unexpected too, since I don't have a stern or aggressive demeanor, one minute I'm the weird smiling kid colouring in the corner, the next some *sshole vandalises my drawing, steals my stuff and starts calling me names and pulling my hair and it's like a switch flips and they don't leave until they're bitten, bleeding and sore. Tmi, but yeah I find the assimilators frustrating, they just make everything worse when a good slap back usually scares the worst off.

There's also a very banal factor to that: there is simply fewer women/members of marginalized communities in the alt-right (for obvious reasons), so it's fairly easy to become celebrated there as "one of the good ones", for the lack of competition if nothing else.

And yeah, I'm aware than in many countries is "just culture" and tied to religion, I live in a relatively conservative one too, at least for Europe's standards (Poland). But I'd say that this video and my comment are less about "cultural conservatism" and more about the alt-right reactionary movements, which are happening in places where women/minorities actually already have/had rights and the extreme conservatives are unhappy with it and try to revert it.

@peachesandcream22

It's because they had to grow up in enviroment where manhood is superior, womanhood is inferior and a woman can't be equal to a man, only if she won't reject her femininity. All of "girlboss culture" is just like this - if you, as a woman, want to receive the same salary as men and don't want to be sexually harassed and bullied in your workplace, then you must be aggressive, dominant, risky, hostile to other women etc. But also with the spice of 💫girl powa💫 , spreaded mostly by... Conservative white women. Which actually not only didn't liberate women but also forced them to "stay in the line", be silent about workplace discrimination cause "this is just how things are" and become an oppressor in the system as the "solution". So these women believe that all of this crap is the same as the concept of "liberation" and they now shout everywhere: "We don't want to be liberated! I feel completely okay in my oppression! Your liberation will take away my security!".

Yes but your mom by definition is going to be considered feminine because she has children. The reason why people on the right will criticize the “femininity” of leftist women is based off child rearing, which would be the apex factor to expressing and practicing femininity to right wing women. Statistically and per capita it is true that religious people have more children than non religious, and conservative women tend to have more children than their liberal counterparts. The gardening, the x,y,z that you can come up with that defines femininity is all secondary and tertiary to the ability to actually have children and actually having children as an expression of femininity. I don’t believe this per se but this is probably the case for what most right people believe about woman embodiment of femininity. No children, no femininity. Of course I can make an argument for why gender roles are arbitrary, but that’s beside the point since people are biased towards their belief systems due to ego instead of empathy.

Thank you for this! As a trans/non-binary person, I feel seen. One thing I wish you had mentioned is that unfortunately there's a handful of trans women out there who use their ability to "pass" as a way to further marginalize those who don't. Thus further internalizing patriarchal misogyny by gatekeeping femininity and denying the existence of gender non-conforming people as well as intersex people. These transmedicalists fly under the radar in queer liberal circles pretty often, but more or less hold these relatively conservative ideas about gender and social roles... In ancient Mesopotamia, people feared demons. Their lives were extremely chaotic, and they thought that was caused by demons. One of the most fearsome was called Pazuzu, you maybe have heard of him. He was in The Exorcist, for example. He was very powerful and absolutely terrible. Destroyer of crops, bringer of disease, that kind of thing. People would pray to him for protection, because they figured if they got behind the biggest bastard, no one could hurt them. This reminds me of modern people, be they the women of the GOP, or Proud Boy Latinos. You can cower all you want behind the biggest, meanest person you can find, sure, but that just means you're at arm's length when they turn on their people.

One angle I'd love to add, as somebody that escaped: the misdirection of self protection. If sex is not desirable for women, and you must constantly cover yourself to avoid being seen sexually by others (and thus assaulted), why would other women see it as empowering? This can come about from being brought up in an extremely religous environment. Sex is bad --> being sexual is bad. So, then, watching other women embrace their sexuality and desire becomes this enraging thing. 'You are making us look bad', 'not all of us want to be seen that way', 'stop feeding into men's carnal desires, it puts us all at risk'. Perhaps these are extremes, but that's what used to come to my mind. I was a scared, hurt, angry teen that clung to the only 'logic' I knew. It's not an excuse, and I'm doing the work to modify those old beliefs, as well as learn more, but I hope it gives a good glimpse into the 'slut shamey' side of women on the alt right. It's not just motivated by the 'sovereignty' of biological womanhood, it can also be visceral fear.

Sometimes the benefit is just acceptance, reputation, self righteousness and competitiveness. Most people support social structure that allows them to minimizing effort and maximizing gain.

As a liberal, I can see some aspects of this video play into my own life. I am a neurodivergent woman, so I feel like it plays more uniquely, but I used to hate women when I was younger because I found it hard to form female connections. In general, healthy femael friendships are harder to form when you're younger, but it was even more hard for me because I was neurodivergent and couldn't read social cues of others. I wasn't even much of a tomboy either, and I was always a very feminine person. but the ostracization of NT women hurt me, I was always the one being bullied in every female friendgroup. However, it was much different in male friendgroups as I would get rewarded for my ND behavior compared to NT womens' groups. This cause me to be very hateful and misogynistic of all women in middleschool, and it didn't help me, because men have a tendency to fetishize neurodivergent women. However, this cahnged in High school when I joined women's empowerment and feminist collectives, and they were very welcoming and supportive. I have made so many friends with NT women, ND women like myself, trans women, other women of color, and it was amazing. I prefer it much more to my way of thinking as a middle schooler. I wish that alt-right women could leave and realize on what their missing out on. Its amazing

If a woman wants a career or public position where they are to this day expected to act "like men" and adopt masculine values maybe the limiting but highly regarded feminine status symbols (husband, kids, home) begin to look like a good alternative. This applies to white cis women mostly because they have the most options here

It's interesting how americans are genuinely so obsessed with identity. The fact that women can be right-wingers isn't surprising to me at all - why wouldn't they be? Sure, we'd expect less than men because lots of right-wing policies take away rights from females, but it doesn't mean that women aren't a diverse group of different types of people who have different opinions. In Australia, the leader of the far-right party is a woman and we have an aboriginal woman in somewhat right-wing politics as well (although right or left distinction is also very reductive and very american - you can have both "left" and "right" wing policies in one politician because people have a diverse set of views). People have different opinions, sometimes those opinions are harmful and wrong. Since POC and women are people, that applies to them too.

Excellent video! Some points that I’ve never considered, like that some women would *want* to be considered as just their body parts, because it’s the only thing that gives them some agency/power (although saying that, it feels like they should be more supportive of sex workers based on that 😂). So it takes us to a very interesting clash, where the left-wing women don’t want to be reduced to just their genitals, and the right-wing ones do. Some good food for thought!

Actually if there is an argument made that “women are valuable because of their reproductive organs” they would be anti sex work because sex work technically devalues the “worth” of said organs. If a person with a vagina is occupying the attention of a person with a penis not for the sake of reproduction or engaging in resources exchanges associated with maternity, then that is considered resources lost. Women who place their value on their reproductive organs need to maintain that value by restricting sex work, and making value claims like “genetic selectiveness” or “purity” What does need to be questioned is if a single person with a vagina participates in those same structures. Often times if a person with a vagina decides to go to a sperm bank, they will reinforce the ideals of patriarchy even though they are participating in an act that devalues patriarchy.

Thank you for your video! I always had thoughts about what's wrong with radical feminists, especially TERFs. Because me myself was veeeeeery close to become TERF. In Russia, where I was born and live, such movements like "masculists" (aka extra-radical patriarchal men) and "radfems" rose high in the 10s and still remain in 20s. I used to hang out in the group of radfems and actually identified as "central lib". This group, as other radfem groups, were acting as the opposite force to "masculists", who were the threat to all Russian women, and it was the main reason I befriended them, and second reason, I wanted to see other people perspective to make a conclusion to myself. But it was times when I was a teenager struggling in strict federal college I was put in by force of my narcissistic mother. I recently became 21 and when I met real trans people and became friends with polyamoric gay which explained me his good experience with the trans woman, I started realising that I was fed so much with transphobia in this group. I wasn't even transphobic in the 1st place, I just agreed with some of transphobic ideas to be accepted in this group and feel secured and validated, even if I knew these ideas were complete bullshit. So Cheyenne, your video helped me to realise why it was a good idea to leave this group. Young girls are highly attacked by everyone and because of this, they radicalize themselves to have some sort of safety and control in their lives. But they're not different from radical patriarchal men and they don't want to see the unfortunate truth until they're faced with it and mature internally like I am.

As a conservative I'll play on the defensive now. Counterpoint, your sources seem to be your fellow content creators as you mentioned in the beginning. Your sources aren't of interviewing conservative women about their values and why they believe they way they do. I have done some research of both sides. Women and men believing in feminism simply want to be on top via the path that has them doing less work yet make them seem better. When you look at the conservative women's arguments the majority of it is that you deal with the hand you were dealt with. They aren't complaining or playing a role to get on top. They embrace that hard work is what you gets on you on top not playing into people's feelings and many of the women you mentioned (Candace Owens and Blaire White) just point out facts, they've done their defenses and arguments against people who disagree with them and just because you see them get backlash because of something they said you see that as them being marginalized because they are the victim that have to put on a face which is odd you say that because people still support them, I still support them. The fact is everyone is marginalized by the opposing side. Everyone is going to be criticized for what they've done. They aren't the victims, they have people holding them up and there still will be people there for here if any of those women do switch up. Either side offers women an easy out when something doesn't go their way. They can join together with other women in camaraderie. Also funny you showed the Australians who oppose trans doing the Nazi salute and not their sign. The sign said Destroy Paedo Freaks (Paedo meaning pedo). Was it bad? Of course. But it doesn't paint the entire terf movement that it supports nazis. It's alike to their sign, not every person in the lgtbq+ community wants to have sex with kids, only certain gender identities want to do so (people of different gender identities doing sexual like activities to kids, rapemapsexuality and transage. those are the only ones I know of currently). You're painting the movement as they are painting the people you defend (lgtbq+), the best way to go about it is talk about more specific cases. Relevant ones at that, not ones from foreign nations or about a fictional character (Andrea). You call the conservatives facists. Why? There are some videos online from people going to protest conservative speakers, some which go out to defend and talk about their opinion. The videos online are of interviews of the protesters with a few of them asking the students asking if they know what fascism is. They all cannot define it, one even said they only were saying it because they didn't like the speaker. Can you really paint American conservatives as facists yet people who yell it out cannot define facist or have to use irrelevant examples to American conservatism. You gain notoriety as a feminist, the word feminist has been too aligned with bad arguments and so has the lgtbq+ movement. Feminists and the lbtbq+ have been misrepresented. The delivery of their movements has been horrendous and you partake in that with improper sources. Anyway lmk what you think of my argument to defend conservatism or if you have any questions. I think it is more accurate to say that white women held on to feminism exclusive until they were challenged into allowing marginalized women to join.

Great video as always! I'd just add that to this equation i think theres another element: misandry. I used to be terf especially about the bathroom/shelter/womans spaces. Because i had grown my entire life with harassment and threats from men on a weekly basis in the streets since i was 9, to this day i feel uncomfortable even when a man-passing person sits next to me on a bus. So when i heard about sharing these other more intimate spaces i thought were safe with strangers that have possibly had a lifetime living with all the benefits and horrible socialization that comes with of being amab, it was scary. It wasn't something born out of seeking male validation or power, it was plain and simple misandry, hate and fear for anyone who looked male-passing. Nowadays i realize that the trans exclusive rhetoric may exclude amabs from those spaces, and force some afabs to feminize themselfs to fit those places (or even be excluded from those spaces that are supposedly made for them), which would make me feel safer BUT thats just simply not right... Not to the afabs who'd have to strictly conform to femininity, and not right to the portion of amabs who dont conform to gender and are just as opressed as me by the cis amabs. There's a common sense that misandry is a victimless crime, but its actually damaging to LGBT community..

I agree. I think a lot of (or even most) right wing TERFs are disingenuous when they use fear mongering to push their anti-trans narrative. However, I can see how a group of people have a genuine fear of the possibility of cis men pushing them selves into 'female-only' places with intentions to harasses. (Though I'm not a fan of bringing this up because I understand cases are rare, and it fuels their unnecessary fear mongering). And though I can sympathize the people with genuine fear, as both cis and trans women do face a lot of male sexual violence, the 'strategy' they try to implement to rule out 'possible predators' end up harassing cis and trans women as well as trans men.

As a right leaning centrist I watched this video in the interest of being informed on both sides but I'm barely halfway through and I just can't ignore the smoking gun anymore. The entire video seems made on the premise or is at the very least being analyzed through the lens of critical theory. And the problem is nobody on the right actually believes in that crap. Nobody in the center does either. People on the moderate left (where I started not even a decade ago) don't believe in it either. The reason people start swinging more right is predominantly because everyone is tired of that crap. The people on the far left seem to think everyone does secretly believe in those theories but they don't want to admit it to keep some power and privilige, which gives off those "actually you secretly believe in god but want to keep sinning" vibes. In addition please keep in mind that the right is currently divided into roughly 3 camps. The religious right, which wants to get rid of abortions, the moderate right, which is against gun control, and the larger anti far left right, which was previously a moderate on either side but strongly opposes anything the woke touches.

I have two questions that I would love to see discussed in another video. What is the logic for traditionalist women in countries like India, Nigeria, China? When cis women participate in patriarchal institutions like cis het marriage and cis het pregnancy, it seems that they are utilizing their privileges and reinforcing systems of patriarchy. It’s like saying you are against a store that segregates white people from black people, but you still shop there and use all of its products. Is there an argument then that in order to be philosophically consistent, allys should opt out and stop engaging in the practices of pregnancy and cis her marriage. By participating in these practices, they reinforce patriarchal structures and work against those trying to challenge those power structures.

I think that cishet people can make rituals how they want, I just don't want them to use these rituals as the weapon against marginalized groups. You can make super-traditional marriage, just don't portray yourself as "holier than thou" to gay marriages.
@grandempressvicky6387

@@peachesandcream22 My thoughts exactly. It's why the queer community fought for gay marriage in the first place. They weren't thinking of it as a weapon but a way to legitimise their affection for their partners in the law. Meanwhile the institution of marriage (rather than the individual concept) is a weapon - both ideological and literal - used to subjugate white women and marginalised communities. They had the exact same reaction to divorce and interracial marriage. Marriage to the patriarchy and the alt right is not an expression of love but a bludgeon. It is to keep power in the hands of some.

This is where intersectionality comes into place. India, Nigeria, China and a lot of African and Asian countries have had very different relationships with the LGBTQ+ communities in the ancient past, especially with the trans community. These relationships changed and evolved over a period of time. The modern interactions that these countries have with the LGBTQ+ community is more hostile compared to their ancient past. While invasions and Abrahamic religion based colonization did play a key role, we need to see through multiple angles and lenses. So in countries that had extremally long histories, it sometimes makes sense to go back to what and how things were for these communities in the past, what they can learn from that past and how to re-radicalize themselves from the teachings of the more tolerant past. This method can feel more approachable and not something they are again borrowing from the west, given their complicated past with the west, and their active approach to decentralize their way of life from western ideals.

Great piece, thank you for taking time to make it. However, I'm not sure if I agree with the notion of not bothering to try to change anyone's mind and to just continue learning ourselves. It's a bit othering and could feed into having less empathy for people who think differently. I'm more in the boat of listening to fears, having empathy, and asking a few reflective questions. To shut down and discredit people only push them further behind their rhetoric walls. People don't change over night but you can still have a big impact on those around you

Ms Wynn(e?) is incorrect. There may be an element of fear but it's mainly fury. How dare we not need them! This got rather better near the end - the opening was stiff and dogmatic, making me think of Marianne's Dashwood's sweeping pronunciations at the beginning of Sense and Sensibility.

Please note that the Reddit post at 1:11 actually gets corrected. There was confusion between Season 3 episode 3 and its 23rd episode where it's actually said. Still, love the videos and even so your point still stands as Angela is very conservative and would most certainly join the Alt-Right had it existed.

This is a good analysis, but it feels too narrow and prescriptivist to explain white conservative women in general. This video does do an excellent job of inquiring into and explaining one genre of conservative white woman, but there's a pretty big difference between a rich terf and rural woman who only cares about gun rights even if they'd both vote for the same people. I think you also neglected the effects of religiosity, and social pressure on political belief

if there's one thing I hate more than anything else in the world, it's people that want to be the victim. I once knew a person who was in a relationship with crack head and he would regularly use her money on cars that he would loan out to drug dealers for what I would assume to be $20 because that's what the drug he wanted usually cost
