Ref was absolutely right, Nishikori clearly hits a winner before Carreño's shot was called out. That challenge does not mean anything

No. If you actually looked properly, he yelled out and then Nishikori's ball went onto the other side as a winner. Useless decision by the chair umpire, and what a time to do it 👎

Both Nishikori's motion and contact with the ball happen before the shot was called out. There is no way Carreño could save Nishikori's shot from where he was standing

Although it was going to be a winner regardless of the OUT call, the out call was made before Kei makes contact which means its a replay, regardless of who was in control of the point or if Kei was going to hit a winner, it happens all the time In tennis when a player is In control of the point but it has to be replayed, its good judgement from umpire, but its against the rulebook.

The call was def NOT before Nishikori hit the ball. It's unreasonable for Pablo to demand the replay. Such a childish behaviour in the end of the high quality game.

The people saying that Carreno Busta behaved poorly and deserved to be booed have obviously never played sport in their life. Imagine being out there for 5 hours, in a critical game with s much on the line. Carreno was both mentally and physically exhausted. On top of this, he believed that the umpire made a very bad call that ultimately influenced the out come of the game. If i was him, i'd be seething as well. He must of felt robbed. I feel sorry for the guy.

Although I don't think Pablo's behavior after the match right, I can understand him. As for a controvertial call(4:27), on x0.25, it seems that the call came only a few moments after Kei made a backhand shot... Anyway congrats Kei for another QFs in Melbourne, and thanks to both guys for a great match.

If I had been on court for 5 hours giving my everything and had a dodgy call that prevented me from having match point, I probably would have reacted the same way Pablo Carreno Busta did. It will be a tough pill to swallow for PCB, but, both players fought hard.

Once it was determined that the ball was in, the umpire then had to decide whether PCB had a play on Nishikori's shot. It would have been a let if PCB had a play on it. PCB could not have been any further from the ball and moving in the wrong direction. The same principle is applied to service aces called out but overruled by Hawkeye

One point didn't cost PCB the match, Nishikori fought back and won it, if Carreño had closed it in 3.... that final and random situation wouln't have happened

4:25 Slow down the video to 0.5x and listen. Line umpire called it at the same moment as Nishikori hit the ball. Unfair, but this happens. Luck not in favour of Carreno.

Don't know why it's relevant whether the call was before keis shot. As long as the call was before carrenos shot it can clearly affect his play. However it's within the rules for the umpire to use his judgement and this time he was correct.

watching the replay in slow mo at 0.25 speed....you can hear the out call start just before Nishikori hits the ball...therefore the next shot had not started before the out call.....the point should of been replayed. Busta was completely right...

Not at all. This guy is an amazing player and gave it his all. He's been up there for a while trying to break through. I bet if one person that booed him thought about what its like to be in his position at that moment, they wouldnt have done it.

Like i said, anyone that puts themselves in his position can understand it. The crowd at that time clearly didn't, had that been the case im pretty sure there would be no boo's cause he did nothing wrong. It was a matter of a heated moment and he apologized afterwards.

I think the call is clearly before kei hits the ball, althought that angle from behind isnt clearly. However, it shows kei knows this is case because of the way he reacts, he knows that the linesman screwed him over but the umpire rescued him.

That was actually nice from PCB handshaking and hugging Nishikori in the state he was in, showing his respect. Not many people can perform at such a high level for 5 hours, so think about that. At that point, you can't really think logically and objectively. And he apologized in his press conference when he cooled off a bit, showing exactly that. People need to stop judging so fast and need to think, after all we havent just played a 5 hour long grueling matching while commenting.

Even if Nishikori hadn't taken the shot yet at the moment the judge called it, it is not required by law for the point to be replayed unless the "out" call was a HINDRANCE to either player The Chair Umpire must decide if the original "out" call was a hindrance to either player. If it was a hindrance, the point shall be replayed. If it was not a hindrance, the player who hit the ball wins the point.' www.atptour.com/en/corporate Nishikori was mid-swing and Pablo was definitely sprinting to the other side BEFORE the call.There was no hindrance to either player, hence the umpire awarded the point to the player that hit the ball.
