A National Treasure. No park has ever held it's magic. I am blessed to have lived a few blocks from here, worked at the Park ( 1968-69), & visited frequently. Thanks for the footage!

Just a different time and era. The same thing happened out in California in long beach with The Pike closing down, and in Santa Monica with the pleasure pier, and up in Northern California in San Francisco with Playland at the Beach being demolished in 1972 for condos. Almost nothing in those generations are still around today. Very sad!!!!!!!!!

...historically, this message is very depressing in 2023. What was a huge significant entertainment venue for the trade, for the city, and for generations of people growing up, today, in 2023, is nothing more than a plaque, and a high-rise condo (constructed w/hopeful less maintenance and more revenue for the current land owners). In 1971, once destroyed, not much of this fantasy land was salvaged, most being dumped as landfill. Makes me emotionally weak w/the realization, if i let it. Technically, this park should have been put under a historic register, possibly taken over by New Jersey ( like Bay Beach in Madison Wisconsin). As huge as Palisades Park was, it shows how easily something so unique can be lost... forever.

If a new one could have been built, I wonder if the magic of that era would have followed.

Bill-all things change over time. Maybe the magic is in finding old photos and films that will help preserve them for ever. Thank you for your reply : )

It really should say “Cliffside Park-Fort Lee” since it was mostly in Cliffside Park.
