Incredible how fast your Wing went into the Spiral - everyone complaining about "why did you throw the Reserve" he was clearly out of control and spiraling toward the earth - not much time to decide on what to do. Hats off for the fast reaction - you did great! I hope I never get into this Situation and if so - I hope I am just as fast in decision making as you were!

The thing that people always forget is that it doesn't matter the size of the collapse/cravatte, it's the *shape* of it. You can have a huge cravatte and your wing will fly straight. Other times it's a very small cravatte, but the particular shape of it creates drag in such a way that you are immediately thrown into a spiral! In this case, an immediate reserve throw is the right decision. This is exactly what happened to this pilot--an unlucky cravatte that caused a spiral. So this pilot did a very excellent job reacting quickly and living to fly another day! Well done imo

I think a decent amount of right brake could bring the wing back up but since there was not much altitude he did fine. I have a low end EN-B and am at the upper weight limit and mine behaves like this.

Same here, I flew Gin Atlas at the upper weight range and got the same, except for my collapse was about 60%, but did not throw the reserve and managed to handle the spiral

This is an Advance Epsilon ... that is an EN B glider. The speed that the glider started spiraling and the fact that with very little brake input the glider didn't try self correct is pretty terrible. I fly a much hotter EN C glider and it doesn't behave anywhere near as badly as this glider did in this video. I've recently done 100% accelerated BIG assymetric collapses in SIV and my glider turned only 90 degrees with no input before reinflating and flying as normal.

I am flying epsilon for almost 2 years now, and there is no way I would expect this kind of behavior of that glider. Passive safety is very well known for epsilon, and I am going through really midday Spain XC flights where conditions are brutal in the summer (read unable to land sometimes). I mean, great reaction with throwing the reserve, but i think really strong break at one point would fix the thing, or at least I would try before throwing the reserve based on the altitude. I suggest SIV course, and if u did it, inspect the glider :)

tbh I just think it's an unlucky cravatte shaped that caused an exceptional amount of drag--although it is possible he's flying overweight.

Never let your wing pass you up. That was lazy piloting. I look up alot more than looking down. I mean both equally important. Keeping both in sight at all times. Active flying requires constantly piloting your wing.

@nairolf5177

What happen is that the gider get an assymetric collapse that tangels in the lines at the left side. The pilot does nothing to control the situation but toss the reserve right away. Better to throw the reserve than doing nothing at all. This could easily been sorted by an experienced pilot but this one is obviously a beginner and we all have to start somewhere. Better to through the reserv one time many than one time to little. As someone wrote also in the comment, the glider dives a bit much to be a EN-B so maybe the equipment need a check.
