Bob Monkhouse was one of our greatest stand-up comics. I had the pleasure of seeing Bob dozens of times as a warm-up act. Mr. Monkhouse, despite his smarmy reputation, was remarkably lacking in ego and several other performers who have worked with him can attest to this. His attitude to his illness, for want of a better phrase, is the overused "inspiring". He believed, as I do, that life does not continue after death but it's comforting to think there is a little bit of him still around, even if it's a lie.
