I’ve loved watching these. Makes you realize how truly devoid we are of any personalities and how homogenized, over politicized and corporatized them modern world has become. Imagine trying to do a Parkinsons tv show in 2022 knowing you have a rabid nasty Twitter space just chomping at the chance to be first with the a viral outrage Twitter post.

There's even a disclaimer before viewing the Parkinson episodes that says: “The following program expresses attitudes that are not consistent with current standards and may offend some viewers.”

Hardy is right in his view as Socialism/Communism has many ideological differences historically and many Left leaning groups or individuals reject Stalinism and Maoism and don’t see them as Communism at all but Dictatorships with elite inner ruling groups dressed up as Cadres. The problem is once once a certain group gains power they don’t want to hand it to the people. The were splits early on in history between the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks as well as Anarchists. This left many people walking away from the Left, the eventual murder of Rosa Luxenberg and Carl Leibnacht and Germany ending up with Facism.aka National Socialism..

Hogan was right about the Sydney Melb differences. One of the reasons I left Melb. But things are changing and it has more to do with Govts than the people. Melb was very backwards in the 1970s and 80s. And he is right about the poor quality of the comedy in Australia.

As a Melbournite who resided in Sydney for years then returned to Melbourne I differ with Hogan about his assertion of Melbourne and Sydney. However his regard for comedy and its quality is spot on. Yes there was the Mavis Bramston Show in the 60s and there was one great comedy film (They're a Weird Mob) - and that was virtually it - sadly. Fortunately, comedy began to develop and come on in more recent years - The Naked Vicar Show, The D-Generation, Fast Forward, Paul Hogan, Barry Humphries (who once listed Sydney Society as a contradiction in terms) etc. It has taken a while but it is slowly getting there.

An hour well spent. Cheers, Laurie. As an aside, and as a musician and producer, I can't quite believe how good the band sounds. 1979 TV recording?? Wow.

@@danielvanr.8681 true. I only noticed because it's my business, which makes it my business to notice. Bands on TV can sound wickedly shitty, especially 40 odd years ago. This just happens to be next level...in any decade. That's all.

Quite sad when Hardy is trying to explain the political philosophy that he has come to, after a life of struggle and moral fortitude, only to be continually interrupted by Parko, who isn't even listening.

Amazing interview with two very 'articulate' and intelligent people. Sadly they are the first of several Aussies I've met who are such; normally the ones I've met are extremely degenerate in social etiquette, good manners, behavior and attitude. The adjective to describe them better would be 'bastards' and 'bitches'. Apart from that most of them still retain the 'convict' mentality of their 'forebears'!
