I HAVE HEARD ABOUT YOUR NAME SPOKEN IN MANY AUTOMOTIVE DIAGNOSTIC CLASSES BEFORE,,, WELL NOW I KNOW WHY THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT!!!!!!!!!!

John, are you a candidate to get the valve job? Yes or No, will you do part 3 on this vehicle? Would you be able to overlay #1 and #3 based on intake waveform to show the offset of In-Cylinder based on low compression showing TDC is not actually TDC? I will guess that you have a 4 channel scope, would it be ok to show In Cylinder, Intake, CKP, CMP? Then show In Cylinder, Intake, CMP, spark or ignition trigger signal, as the CKP is tied directly to the crank/piston shown in the In-Cylinder regardless. If possible, a before and after set of waveforms would be awesome for a serious case study. I see some valve overlap issues, TDC timing based on not true TDC based on low compression hence the need for CMP and CKP or spark based on the number of scope channels available. Piston overlays need actual interpretation beyond the colored regions due to valve timing and overlap. Time permitting of course, great set of videos, much appreciated.

First. No I am not a candidate to do the valve job. When you get into your 60's one has to pick and choose what we want to do. Besides the shop that originally did the head gasket was going to do (redo?) the repair. I just had to prove what was wrong. It would have been nice to get the after repair data but that just wasn't in the cards. They sold the car within two days after they had successfully completed the repair. Be careful about trying to get too much from the original test without both in person training and first hand experience. I do go in-cylinder with the second video and while we are (I am) aware that TDC's exact location in the waveform might be distorted, it's normally close enough to not interfere with analyzing the waveform. All of the other tests you mention could in fact be useful from time to time and might even be necessary in a number of occasions. This time it wasn't required to actually prove what was wrong. Next time it might be so we do need to practice gathering all of that information on known good cars so that when we have a broken one and aren't sure what exactly is wrong we can did a little deeper by adding those additional measurements. I put the overlay on the second test more to start building awareness for future examples. It wasn't really necessary this time but you never know when that ability is going to help. Thanks for the feedback!

On the known good cylinder, what was the EVC timing.......a leaking cylinder may not show correct valve timing....

Difficult to be certain on. It looks like it might be early when really magnified because of the rise in pressure suggesting both valves are closed just before TDC.

@@thecardoc100 An after repair capture would be nice SIr.

@@duanedonaldson2262 Totally agree but sometimes you don't get to fix the car and in this case it was going back to the shop that did the original work.
