I think many states should tone down on the math questions. For example, in NJ, they toned down the test questions to become a teacher due to people having trouble with them. It's one thing if you are going to be a manager or superintendent at a plant.

Can confirm atleast the ohio 1 had about 15 math questions. But they were basically this level.

I saw a similar question about lagoons and DO being the lowest in the morning.reference from water and wastewater courses.practice test and answers.They stated that algae take in oxygen at night.Thanks for the work you put in the videos.✌️

Sorry for the late reply back...great comment btw. I love when people add additional information that is relevant to the video. It is true that at night algae will consume oxygen. It is still most important to understand that algae creates way more oxygen during the day than they consume at night. Next time I review treatment lagoons I will make sure to dive deeper into the topic. Most topics I talk about in these videos have more layers to them that would take an entire video to discuss in detail. I try to keep things to the point and share the most useful information relevant to the question. Thanks again for the comment!

I will soon be taking my new York state 3a exam anywhere I could get some info on mainly prosses control
@worldofwastewater

Many of the questions on my test come exactly from a NY 3a exam. I would just do as many practice tests as you can. Go over concepts and processes that are not at your plant. It's important to be well rounded for the exam. Also if your treatment plant has an ops challenge team, they may have practice questions you can do in regard to process control. Either way, good luck!

I can guarantee you will find similar concepts or questions to some degree on your exam. No matter where or what type of wastewater exam you take this exam they all share many of the same type of questions. This may be overall More advanced than your grade 1 exam but it will nonetheless help. This also shouldn’t be the only thing you study. Good luck on your exam! I’d like to hear how it goes.

Why is seed correction factor not on the formula sheet? That problem was way too complicated lol
@worldofwastewater

That problem is very advanced. You would only find something like that on the highest grade exams. But part of the reason for these questions is to get people thinking deeper about the various concepts such as BOD.

I got my grade 1 exam today. Question for the BOD question... in the bottom half of the unseeded formula you divide by the SAMPLE volume. Why did you divide by 3 mL (the seed volume)? That sample chart is a little confusing as I do not work in the lab at my plant. Thanks
@worldofwastewater

Great question. Its difficult to understand without having a firm grasp on how BOD tests are performed. Highly encourage to understand that process. For some background. When it comes to running BOD tests in the lab. There are two ways of doing it, one way is to use seed and the other way is to not use seed. Seed is essentially adding a known amount of “bugs” to a sample so you can guarantee that oxygen will get depleted. Why is that important? If not enough oxygen gets depleted the sample is invalid. This can be a problem on effluent samples because effluent is generally “clean”. Now in order to use seed, we need to know exactly what the BOD of just the seed will be so we can subtract it out later. Part 1 of that question is calculating the BOD of a sample that only contains the seed, there is no addiontal seed in a seed blank (bottle 6) which is why we are using the “unseeded” formula….sorta confusing but it is because there isn’t any extra seed in the sample like there would be for the other sample bottles. So part 1 is calculating the BOD of the seed only sample (bottle 6 - seed blank). We use 3mL because it is how much seed was used in that test. Once we know the BOD of just the seed is we can use it to figure out a correction factor (part 2 of the question). We use the seed correction factor in calculating the BOD of the other samples like bottle 2 and 4 in the question. You may ask why so many bottles. BOD tests are ran with multiples of each sample. Because the test is depending on organsims using up oxygen which can’t be precisely controlled. Multiple tests are ran on each sample like you may have 3 or to 5 bottles on the influent and effluent of your plant just saw you can guarantee an accurate number. You would ultimately average the result of all 3 to 5 sample to get your final BOD value. Hopefully this made some sense. Goodluck on your exam!

@@worldofwastewater yeah I got you, I just run Ph samples and chlorine residuals as far as the lab testing goes. On my exam (NJ) I didn't see any bod5 test questions that needed the formula, they gave me both formulas on the sheet thankfully though

You will 100% find many of these concepts on an exam and/or similar questions. These questions range in difficultly, so some of them may only be on the higher level exams. If you are asking if these exact questions, word for word will be on a test, most likely not. No one has the exact questions that will be on an exam (that would be cheating). These questions will definitely help. That’s not coming from me. I have had many people both in real life and online tell me these questions have been very helpful. Thanks for your interest!

Where did the 7.2 come from was that a typo. Was it supposed to be 5.1 on the bod question
@worldofwastewater
Жыл бұрын
Part 1 and 2 of that question is about calculating the seed correction factor, 7.2 is the final DO of the seed blank. The 5.1 value is part of the effluent sample which is used in part 3. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for watching!
