After heavy rains, the rivers flush a great deal of sediment, debris, and logs into the Lake, which makes the water murky and colored in some coastal zones. Some of the river water is also colored red/brown from iron deposits as well as from the needles from coniferous trees. For instance, I've been told that the needles from the tamarack trees' needles cause the river water to be redish.
