As I'm watching this video, I got ahead of myself and deleted the image off of the used switch I just purchased, so I've learned more than anticipated tonight about downloading images onto flash drives and copying into flash. But I'm glad I know the process now! Thanks for all you do for us, Keith!

This is one of those things you cannot replicate in a virtual environment. That’s why you should still need to lab with physical gear sometimes.

When I need to download an ios image, I also found Google to be VERY helpful in those situations as well🤣. Thank you Keith for not editing the real life bumps. I found those bumps to be the juicy stuff.

Hi Kieth, great video thanks! I like to verify /md5 the images before reboot. Essential for those “Google Images”, just in case they have been tampered with.

what does the no switchport and add Ip address to that interface do? Why did you do that... Thx. I thought the purpose of a switch is to you know have a vlan and send traffic 2 different ports. Why is this a routed port... thx
@KeithBarker

Thank you for the question Nick's Garage. If needed, and individual port on a multilayer switch can be changed from its default of a layer 2 normal switched port, to a layer 3 port/interface by using the "no switchport" command on that port. Simply depends on what is intending to be done. Let me know if that helps, or if you have further questions, and happy studies.

@Keith : Use tftp... it will work without password or username.. This is how we do it office... It is easy.. We use filezilla also. You are lucky you are using 15.2. If you are downloading Denali Code, it would be way too longer... This is my experience..

Keith you never set the boot system image to 15.0.2 SE11.... did your switch boot up or went into rommon?

Hi Manish , I believe we use boot system when we have multiple IOS image and we want cisco device to follow specific selection of image while booting up . Device gets boot up even though boot system is not used because it always search for image in flash . Hope my answer is useful to you

Thank you for the question manish kad. If there is only 1 image on the flash, that is what it will use on this model. Great point though, thank you!!! (It did boot to the IOS :)

@@KeithBarker Thanks for the config. By the way, good idea to configure a port with no switchport and an IP address. I had some fun with IPv6 routes pointing to one of the new switches in my network because i just connected one port without further configuration.
