When I first heard Slip Away being played on the jazz radio station I was listening to I had no idea who the musicians were performing this beautiful song . I fell in love with this song and had to find out who was behind this music . At the time I was at work filing away medical records . When the song ended I was going to put my filing on hold and call the radio station to ask the name of the group .The Dee Jay saved me the trouble and stated it was PMG . When I got off from work I rushed to the music store and purchased ( Letter From Home ) CD the same year I got married March 1989 . I'm a fan for life . Rest in Heaven Lyle Mays .🙏🙏❤❤

This song has such beautiful and poignant memories for me, I long to go back to a time when life was hard yet so wonderful. I still have it on VHS and made means to import it since it was unavailable in South Africa at the time. This song is perfect in every way, the "duet between Pat Metheny and Pedro Aznar is perfection, but I have to admit its Lyle Mays keys and the gentle percussion of Armando Marcal that stirs me, thereafter Pat and Pedro takes you on a journey. Magic

Pat Matheny music is music that gets right to one's soul, with melodies that are soothing, heartfelt and profound. A true modern day musical genius. "Slip Away" is another fine example of this genius at work. One of my favourite artists, whose music is as timeless the 100th listen as it was the first.

In my estimation, the best solo by Pat Metheny in any record, group or otherwise. It's so simple and melodic and weaves through the song so effortlessly. It's almost married to it in a way, that any other version by Pat himself wouldn't sound correct..

Amazing how, after all this time, this song still has such joy, positive energy and vibrance. Pat, Lyle, and in fact, so many jazz musicians are a direct line to the source of all things. Beautiful music being equated with a gay lifestyle is lowbrow idiocy, as beautiful music knows no boundaries. It fills your spirit with hope and belief; it tends your wounds and heals your deepest aches; it gets you through traffic and a hundred and one stupid comments. Thank God for Pat & Lyle, Steve, et al...

This is it. The studio version is the 1st Smooth Jazz song I ever heard. Decades ago while driving from Buffalo, NY (went to UB) to the Mid Hudson Valley region of NY State it was about 11pm and I had on my radio listening to the local radio stations as I traveled down the NY State Thruway. As it was while passing Rochester, NY I picked up a station playing this. The song just took me away. As fate would have it I've been a Smooth Jazz fan ever since.

Pat Metheny is a genius and Pedro Aznar has the voice of an angel; it was such a shame when the latter left the Metheny group. Not to take anything away from Mark Ledford and David Blamires who were both phenonmenal singers in their own right with voices that meshed well with Metheny's music but Aznar's voice was simply out of this world.

This song has stayed with me ever since I first heard it late-night on a smooth jazz radio station in Phoenix, Arizona in the late 90s. Now when I play it in my car or at home relaxing my mind slips away briefly to my futuristic self wandering aimlessly along the empty coastal streets of Portugal lost in the moment while listening to this ethereal PM masterpiece … and I smile. I hope one day to experience that dream.

Pat Metheny & "Slip Away" has got to be one of the finest examples of true lead guitar there is. In my little book you'll find names like Carlos Montoya, Alvin Lee, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray, and Mr. George Benson, just to name a few. I know, I know - there are soon many talented people out there, but this tune and the way Metheny laid it out, used it for the wrap, then even finished that last phrase - man, ya just gotta shake your head, right?
