Did you watch / listen to the video? At all? He actually says that real vintage guitars are often idiosyncratic mongrels that can be impossible to live with and he wouldn't trade them for his 90s CS. And at no point did he say he owned the '62...just that he was lucky enough to have it in the studio. And that "car" comparison is irrelevant if BHP is your comparison criteria.

I'm old enough to have played lots of guitars from the 50s and 60s when you could find them in pawn shops for a couple of hundred bucks. I played a 1964 Firebird for years that cost me $250 in the early 90s. When the prices skyrocketed I sold it and bought my Hwy1 Strat and kept the extra money. Same with my 64 Bassman amp. I think modern gear is better, more consistent and sounds at least as good as the old stuff. I see guitars that were crap when they were new selling for thousands now. It's ridiculous.

Let's look at more modern Strats: why are old-school American Standard models on the used market (which are fine guitars IMO) costing almost as much as new American Pro II's which are arguably better guitars? Or worse yet: for the prices I've seen for Mexican Standards, you can get a used Player Series Strat for about the same or maybe a little more (less than $200).

I've had some great 60's Fender and Gibson's. I prefer my partscasters I'm currently playing though. In 1980 I paid $150 for a 69 Fender and $700 in 1992 for a 62 Les Paul/SG, it was a different time...

There are some good ones out there. I play my partscasters more than any other strats I have as well.

The wife and I bought our house in 1986 for $49,000. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. $11,000 left over for a guitar.

I bought a 93 deluxe plus Strat in 96 used. $750. No case, no strap. Just the guitar. Brand new looking. No scratches ,no marks, no wear out of anything. Now my butt ugly yellow (vintage blonde) is so well used, so worn in. Will this be vintage some day. All the options, but with actual relic by playing. Got a L P studio ebony with gold trim ebony fretboard also but everything Gibson didn't do right I fixed. So no original equipment value left on this 1. Just a heavy R ×R tool here. And for vintage amp how about a 85 Mesa S O B that's wood and wicker and fully optioned out also. In a road case so it stays pretty. Do these kinda things ever get vintage or will that be over by the time these get old enough. At the same time I got the Strat I picked up a pro tube 94 Twin. Brand new used $800. Unfortunately these amps are LOUD, HEAVY and BIG. Especially for this 63 yr old.

prs silver skys have the vintage tone, on every single one of them consistently. even the silver sky se's have a very similar tone, and very consistent.I have owned a core silver sky, and i now own two silver sky se's,indonesian made. They are awesome.I sold the core model because i never truly adjusted to the 7.25" radius combined with the thick neck. BUt the SE's are perfect.I think you need a thick neck to get proper vinatge tone

The '61 is built to spec of the 1961 model. A '50s neck is a bit thicker though.

I just got a latitude lark for 220... Roasted maple neck, stainless steel frets, music man style dual trussrod, bone nut, and the stainless steel frets were finished well plus the pickups were great .theese greedy american compaines wanna make it so that only the wealthy can play there instrument... They can have it... This is literally one of my favorite guitars ive ever gotten reguardless of price or namebrand

There's dogs around in brand new guitars. No matter what name is on top. Also what's crap to 1 guy is fantastic to the next. "Ooh I don't like this Strat". Next guy "I love the feel of this Strat. Never owned a Strat before." To each his own, 1 man's junk is the next man's treasure. Some little fix could make that problem child beautiful. Mine's been amazing to me for 27 yrs. But some have picked it up and can't stand it.
