Paul's burst of musical creativity from 1964- 1970 was unparalleled. It could be the most impressive 6/7 years of musical creativity the world has ever and is likely to ever see. He did not exactly "fall apart" after the Beatles (as some have stated). In fact, he went on to be a very, very good rock singer/songwriter. He probably remained in the top 10 singer/songwriters from 1970-1980. From there, sure, it was down hill, and at a rather fast speed I might add. BUT, nothing, and I mean nothing comes close to Paul Mccartney during those years 1964-1970. It was like GOD had given him (and perhaps John) a direct 6-year lease to heaven. Simply miraculous stuff

I dunno if I'd limit it to that. Chaos and Creation is a damned good album, and that almost alien bassline in "Riding to Vanity Fair" is amazing. And unlike some people who poo'd on his forays into classical, that opening 8 minutes of I Spiritus from Ecce Cor Meum is right up there with Mozart.

Paul and John were both brilliant in their own way. Both could write great lyrics and both could write great music. Just as you tried to label one with a style the other one would produce a beautiful tune. Together they were two halves of one whole or two side of the same coin. However in their individual ways they continued to make excellent music after the break-up. This tune reminds us of lost times, a lost generation, our youth a simple world seemingly alien to today. Thanks Paul.

@Signature50 - Paul could easily have written this piece on piano or guitar, then presently it to George Martin for scoring. I'd bet it all that Paul was right there with Martin when this piece was created using the strings, horns, etc., giving verbal direction as to how he wanted it to sound. After all, it was swirling around in Paul's head, not Martin's. Much of Paul's Liverpool Oratorio was done this way, Paul giving direction - and freely telling the musician's assembled that he does not read music - on how he wanted each piece to sound. Paul can play something out on piano, then have orchestra musician's interpret it on their chosen instruments. Once Paul hears the musicians play what he hears, the piece is born.

@@thefonzkiss I can't remember them all, but to name a few, there was originally The George Martin Orchestra whose several versions, 13 of them I think, appeared on The Family Way album. A different version was taken for the single in the UK. The American single had a completely different upbeat take. Then there were versions from different orchestras such as Sounds Sensational, Sounds Spectacular, The Brass Ring, Jörgen Ingmann, The Casino Royales, and many years later on Paul Aubut's Claudel String Quartet of at least 9 versions, and Anthony Rozankovic's Quatuor La Flute Enchantée with 3 versions. I know there are more, but can't think of them right now. Count these and add up how many version you can find. I counted 32 so far. Oh, and I've even heard Paul's original humming to a guitar version for George Martin to write down to music. A bit broken in places, but truly entertaining

@R_ Reveley So, classical music is defined as "music for elitists". And that pretty much holds for today. "Pop" music is for the unwashed masses. Then let's call McCartney's music beautiful, original, musically innovative -theory wise-, with each piece unique from all the others. Anyone who defines himself as "elite" should pull the stick out of his ass and realize that he is crude, course, and base, for thinking that. And he probably doesn't know real beauty at all. Mathematicians tend to love classical music because of its mathematical and strictly-defined nature and scope.

Paul McCartney composed the score for the 1966 British movie comedy The Family Way starring Hayley and John Mills. The movie was based on a 1963 play All In Good Time about a just married couple who cannot consummate the marriage. The subject is a bit risque and far-fetched, but the movie itself is good. It captures 1960s Britain pretty well. George Martin supervised and arranged the music. A soundtrack album was released as well as a 45 single.

Please read all of Gaston Monescus' comment . you'll find it's by Beatles producer George Martin . Paul had been contracted to score the incidental music for the film FAMILY WAY . It was getting late. " This is from an account I read ", so mr. Martin went to Paul's house took him over to a piano and said " I need something " , Paul having not prepared, " a Beatle tradition " looked at the piano and started playing . What your listening to is what he came up with . Now then , ANY OTHER ARTIST , go do the same thing.

He did this too? Where does it end??? It’s like The Beatles squished 3 or 4 decades into one with everything they accomplished during their relatively short time together. Two albums a year on average (all first rate and one voted most influential of all time by Rolling Stone mag), radio, early touring, 5 ~movies (plus 1 with just John and 2 Ringo was in), starting a record label, writing and producing music for other artists (such as Peter and Gordon, Badfinger, Mary Hopkin), McCartney’s music as “Bernard Webb,” and making non-Beatle albums (like this one, Plastic Ono Band - released after the breakup but started in ‘68, and George’s Wonderwall), and of course the beginnings of their solo music… They didn’t waste time!
