Paul at his peak. No other artist ever could pull of this seamless flow between rock and soul. Indeed the best live performance of the decade.

loved this funky line up, the flute set it off so well, his first solo album had such a fresh sound, not knocking at all what he has done since as he has made some great music , but this set really flows.

Brilliant gig, brilliant venue indeed!! PW played a sort of a secret gig at Vidia in Cesena a couple of years before this gig, it was 1990, I was there and it was even better. One of my fondest memories. He was there to prove himself, to prove that the fire was still there and it was. Weller rules..

I think the first two solo albums are top draw and don't get the credit they deserve. This band is very good too. Great to see Helen Turner on keyboards, she smiled at me when I saw The Style Council at the Brighton Centre on 8th June 1985 as a 16 year and I was totally smitten by her!

How so??? Weller was a solo artist before oasis released its first album in 1994, weller already had two albums on them.
@Modernjazz1

@@thomasjcox Not specifically Oasis, but I think the whole 'Britpop' movement did have an impact on Paul Weller. Damon, Noel, Craddock, Richard Ashcroft and others all acknowledged that Weller and The Jam were a massive influence on them (most of them would have been kids when The Jam were at their peak in the late 70s and early 80s). His first solo LP and the Wild Wood LP were heavily influenced by soul, r&b, and jazz/acid jazz (though not to the same extent as The Style Council, Weller was back to playing guitar). I think after 1994/95, Weller went in a more 'rock/pop' direction (though the soul/r&b influence was always rumbling beneath), Weller made an appearance on 'Champagne Supernova' playing lead guitar, he did a duet with Noel on 'The White Room' show, he was gigging with OCS and Craddock, he was getting decent reviews in the NME and Melody Maker (both of those papers had slagged him off during the 80s with TSC). Stanley Road, Heavy Soul were more straight ahead rock albums, the whole mid 90s Brit Pop thing might have had an influence on Weller in that respect.

What would have happened if Weller had never met Steve Cradock? Would he have continued to make music like THIS?
