Who is here in 2024, with tears in their eyes besides me? With all the pain and loss and suffering scattered across all islands especially Lahaina, this song embodies all of it. And for Pearl Jam to embrace it and sing it for our islands at their concert, that is something really special... even if it was 2006, it resonates to this day, the power of this song....

From what i understand. Nobody in attendance expected Pearl Jam to sing this song let alone give honor to this anthem of our State Moto. Respect beyond Respect to Da 'Aina by Pearl Jam. Our State of Hawai'i is the only State in the Union where BOTH the State Anthem and Moto are written entirely in a language other than English.

Just think of IZ lighting the match that is obviously still burning! Vedder may not get the pronunciation correct but the respect and homage is off the scale. Music is emotions and the imperfections make it better IMO. Best part of this is the audience reaction

@aitutaki50

I Ka Pono, to make right/just, was a concept my 2nd (Brazilian) wife was just discussing with me, because she has been utilizing a Westernized version of ho'oponopono for meditative healing (which she recently discovered on the internet)...I was somewhat amused when she explained to me the concept of ho'oponopono, considering that I lived for many years on The Big Island, & my first wife (RIP) was Native Hawaiian & she used to hang out in Makaha with her cousins & listen to Braddah Iz & his ohana play music at their family luaus...anyway, it got me to reminiscing about Hawai'i & this song in particular...so, naturally, I followed the rabbit hole of KZitem, watching various versions of Braddah Iz playing the song, until I happened upon this version by Eddie Vetter & Pearl Jam, performed in Hawai'i...&, I really enjoyed it! Aloha, Bill

Blah, bitch. It's not a voice's ability. I am sure that Israel's voice can dig it up with Brit Pop or Grunge or whatever anytime. It is about Americans recognizing that Hawai'i has been annexed and doesn't belong. That was a great thing to do for an American band. And yes, I am not a big fan of Pearl Jam, but they're great musicians. Different genre.
