Spezza is no dummy. Great playmakers almost never are. Despite this being a nepo hire, it's one I supported. By all accounts he's been very diligent.

Hes going to end up being the GM when Dubas feels its right to move up into only the Pres of Hockey Ops position and establish a separate GM.

Can someone explain to me why a player is allowed to play in the NHL at the age of 19, but a player needs to he 21 to play in the AHL? That doesn’t make any sense. Or am I mistaking what the rule is?

We have a primer on the rule: www.dkpittsburghsports.com/2021/08/17/nhl-chl-transfer-agreement-faq-rules-penguins-tlh Essentially, it's in place to keep the junior leagues competitive and avoid NHL teams depleting the rosters for players they aren't even going to play. Those borderline players are good for the junior leagues financially, but also help develop younger players by being good competition/teammates.

@@dkpittsburghsportspenguins ok. That makes a lot more sense. It does kinda suck though that players like Yager who are ready for the AHL at 19 can’t be there yet.

@@brandonn7770 I am also hoping he can make the team. I think learning from crosby and Malkin would really help him.
