Hello, thank you for taking the time to create and post these lectures for free. Many students, myself included, appreciate your work greatly. Just one question from this video -- if bond formation gives off energy and is exergonic, and the reverse is true for bond breaking, wouldn't the formation of a peptide bond be favorable since it is exergonic?
@ernestorallon
2 жыл бұрын
This is super late but just in case someone else has this question: Breaking bonds requires energy and forming bonds releases energy, but every chemical reaction has both (including the formation of a peptide bond). In every chemical reaction, the reactants’ bonds are broken (in this case C-O and 2 N-H bonds) and new bonds are formed to make the products (in this case the C-N peptide bond). Though energy was released in forming the peptide bond, energy is required to break the other three bonds. The energy required to break those bonds is greater than the energy released by the formation of the peptide bond so the reaction overall is endergonic and requires a net addition of energy and its thermodynamically unfavorable!

Where does the high activation energy needed to break down the peptide come from? What is the origin of it so to say? Is it in the interaction between the atoms of the two aminoacids?
@ananthiponnusamy7938

if the activation energy for the hydrolysis reaction is more, how can the condensation reaction take place since the activation energy for the peptide synthesis is greater than in the reverse process? (from the energy level diag), please do reply ASAP

Hlo sir, Sir there is a confusion regarding the graph. Sir would u just reply that how does the progression of the reaction depends upon thermodynamics and kinetics . Like the reversed rxn is not kinetically favorable....but sir if our body break the EA( barrier) for the forward rxn then why does is it able to break the EA(barrier) in the reversed dirn...

Is the term dehydrolysis reaction synonymous with dehydration synthesis?
@AKLECTURES
9 жыл бұрын
Cognitive Philosophy Dehydration synthesis implies that we are synthesizing something and in the process releasing a water molecule. Dehydrolysis is the process by which we release water in the reaction. I'd say the two are the same.

Why ATP molecules cant break peptide bond?? The same way that they form peptide bond?
@alfredafriyieasiedu
Жыл бұрын
I believe ATP can take part in the reverse reaction but will require a lot, but the body can't produce that therefore enzymes and other factors will be needed.
