I would TOTALLY not mind watching that movie only 7 hours long... If they just could keep the deleted scenes in the movie, it would have been so great... Like I loved that movie so so so much, and yeah...

+Tara Igland Thumbs-Up #161 I am, Sunday evening 13 October 2019! I believe that if a scene is filmed it should NOT be deleted. The actors learned the dialogues and acted to scenes. I consider it pathetic of American audiences not to be willing to sit for the film to get the full message. Dances With Wolves was a great film! The should make an intermission for bathroom breaks!

This scene shouldn't have been cut because it shows Charlie's close relationship with his mom

@@Daniela-tk8jv I know in editing of a movie the (directors or producers) sometimes feel that some scenes slow down the movie and do not add the intended message. I agree with Perry, the scene in the car is important because it gives us the audience the chance to peel back another layer to see how his aunts behaviors not only affected Charlie, but how his mother felt once she knew. Regardless, this movie is excellent. The story line, characters and most of all the wonderful cast who were able to portray these characters to where we the audience bonded with one or many.

@@christopherborsellino2268 Charlie's mom's reaction was conveyed more efficiently in the scene where she finds out at the hospital. She stops in her tracks, looks sickened by the news, and walks away to process it.

Man, seeing the awkwardness of the family and how to react after Charlie is back home is completely relatable. After I got back home from my stay at a mental hospital following my suicide attempt, my parents were happy I was out sure but there was this lingering though that a normal life at home isn't possible after what had happened. It's like my parents still felt like they failed in showing that they care and are still wondering how to treat/react to me being back. While I didn't have the same situation Charlie went through, this scene really continues to speak volumes to me

I wish the deleted scenes had included the director's commentary as I'd like to know his thoughts on why certain scenes were left out of the final film. In some cases, like the scene with Candace, I already know - because they wanted to secure a PG-13 rating - but in others, I don't. A small quibble though. The DVD actually includes two commentaries - one with just Stephen Chbosky, and one with Chbosky and several cast members - and both are funny and offer great insights.

TayInTheWay Stephen does offer commentary on all of the deleted scenes and why he cut them! At least on my Blu-ray. Maybe the DVD is different?

I know this was 3 years ago, but consider pacing. Like you said, this scene wasn't cut to secure some rating, or because it was poorly lit. It provides a deeper connection for the film but to include it, in my opinion, would've sacrificed flow. As to say it was cut to all the events in the film flow better; and I would say it worked, I thought the final film was great. However, this scene is good to watch standalone.
