The best way to get rid of snails is by far the introduction of assassin snails. I had bought a live plant and it came with about 6 rams horn snails and in 3 weeks they turned into 100s of snails and crashed the tank. I was trapping them with a glass and lettuce and taking out 30 to 4O every day but they are prolific breeders. I decided to introduce 6 assassin snails and they cleared up the tank in about a week. All I had left was hundreds and hundreds of empty snail shells. I now ask the local pet store for some of their invasive snails (for free) to feed to my assassins. The assassins don’t breed like other snails and in 2 years I only have approximately 8 snails Ana’s that accounts for some that died.

Well for me I also had maybe 300-400 hundred problem snails. I introduced 5 small assassin snails, in 2 months time I had zero ‘problem’ snails but literally hundreds of assassin snails instead. And they aren’t particularly fond of algae so now I’m searching for solutions to clear my snail problem - a solution that isn’t replacing a problem with another. Everything I read said they breed really slowly in my case at least that was a lie. I can only guess an abundance of other snails to eat meant they in turn churned out loads of eggs? Not sure but I would not recommend assassin snails to anybody.

But in my RCS tank I got some small type of snail, they are tiny whitish in color, and multiply like crazy. This snail reproduces quickly and I only can remove them when I gravel clean but its one type of snail hard to identify. They are cone shape to be exact but tiny. Oh I've been feeding my shrimps blood worms and the colony has been going nuts shrimplets everywhere! That green hair algae is a bugger btw it's not to appealing it's comes and goes in my tanks, how do we get this STUFF? Thanks Mark!!

Alllll the babies just look like tiny mold spots and they have a zillion babies. To think this started off with one single snail and I barely noticed it bc it's tiny like I mentioned. Soon after nothiced a clear blob on the side of the tank. Which later found out that was it's babies 😱. Ya yesterday I transferred my fish to another tank and I'm cleaning this tank. Hopfully, get rid of all of them. Thanks for the tips.

¿? ¿? Crushing them gives them more food to eat as they like to eat faeces or dead things. We keep our snail count low with regular water changes. The snail count should spike first and then stay low if your water conditions are good and they should decline as less waste is available.

No Planaria worked on my pond snails but not my mini ramshorn snails. Luckily they're under control, I only squish one or two every few days in each tank. I haven't seen a pond snail for months, nor have I introduced any new plants and guess what I killed a few hours ago? A bloody pond snail! Where on earth did it come from??

Just let them run they course. The real problem is the tank has too much food waste in them. When they run of food they will die off. They cant survive if there no more food for them to eat.All their doing is cleaning the tank.

But then they will eat the plant in the tank if no food available. My old tank's floating plants were all destroyed by these snails. Such a nightmare.

Two words, CLOWN LOACH pre-introduction? Hundreds of snails. After TWO are introduced? Not one. There's only shells. (weirdly, they ate but the Red-rimmed melania, which are the only ones I actually like. They might do it later, though.)

I would love a mass of shrimp like yours, I have a shit load of ramshorn at the minute, they get on my tits when I look at them, but on the other hand there is hardly any algae in my planted tank. I try get a few out with my weekly water change. Little buggers are always freeloading on the elephant snails!

Hey y'all! If someone could like this comment if they have advice, it will get my attention. I have snails with some sort of pathogen. Large pathogen. Growing out of the snail meat. Looks sort of like a drawing of a heart, with those two lobes at the top and one point of connection. Lobes have each have a single white spot, right in the center of the lobe. Also, crushed snails in my tanks take off like truckers. Im not sure I'm killing them. I go back a few minutes later to find at least 4 snails, with broken shells, moving top speed along the glass.

No longer have that pathogen. Appears to have been wiped out, along with planaria, using dog dewormer. I'd still love any input!
