Trascript: This post is packed with pet sitting tips and will show you how to do a meet and greet. Read on or scroll down to the video tutorial to learn how to have a successful meet and greet as a pet sitter.
When someone wants to book you for pet sitting on Rover, you will get notified on the app. You’ll also get an email containing a link to the Rover website.
To accept a booking, there is a bright and shiny “accept” button. You also have the option of setting up a meet and greet first. I highly recommend you set up and meet and greet to make sure the dog/cat/other animal is a good fit. Your clients will appreciate that their pet sitter is careful and wants to meet them.
Side note: Even though you can certainly take care of cats with Rover, I’m going to do a separate post about cat care, so I’ll refer to the animals as dogs in this article.
During your meet and greet, here’s a checklist of questions you need to ask your client:
How old is the dog? Are they on any medications?
Are they on flea or tick prevention? (If not, this is a deal breaker for me personally).
What is the animal’s typical routine? You need to find out where they typically sleep, when they go for morning walks, how often (and how much) they eat.
Has the dog has ever been away from home before?
Do they get along with other dogs or cats?
Are they microchipped? If so, what is the microchip number? Are they the “escape artist” type?
Does the dog like children or get along with other animals?
Always ask for an emergency contact person in case if you can’t reach the owners.
Get the dog’s vet’s name and phone number.
If you decide they are a good fit, find out the pick up time and drop off time. Finally, log into Rover and accept the booking.
