This video was produced by TV production students from Solent University.
A special thank you to Sophie for featuring in this video and having the courage to tell her story and experience of a physical health check.
Physical health checks are offered to all patients with a serious mental illness.
The Five Year Forward View for Mental Health (2016) has highlighted that people with mental health problems have poorer physical health than the general population and commits to improving their physical health. An estimated 10-20 years of potential life is lost in SMI and the increased risk of premature mortality is well established.
All service users will have the opportunity to engage in annual health checks with those accessing EIP services, inpatients, service users prescribed Clozapine and other anti-psychotic medication and those service users who are unable to access their GP due to their SMI having the opportunity to engage in enhanced monitoring which will include the following:
• BMI
• BP
• Alcohol screening
• Lipid screening
• Glucose screening
• Smoking
We are certain they will make a significant difference to our patients with SMI.
