Thanks. Yeah, it looks great...everything matched up well. Impressed with the quality case from Phylida, too.

Nice operating. Sometimes you you'll lose one. You'll have a bunch of spare parts and everything else you'll make it up. They'll pay for themselves eventually

Yeah, I cut my losses with this one for now. I bought a Miyota movement for it, but just haven't had the time to circle back around and revisit the project. Like you said...I've got parts in stock for when the time is right for me to tinker!

Lovely custom watch (even if a little expensive) despite the worries....There is no need to hope to undertake, nor to succeed to persevere.... this is my motto, which I share with you in a friendly way! 😜

Yes, I like the looks! It’s a great idea if you want to design (partially) your own watch. Building it yourself gives you an immediate attachment to it as well.

I shouldn’t have put so much faith in that movement! The dial and case combination turned out well, though. LOVE the case...and for only $35!

Movement holder must be holding movement so that stem is misaligned with case stem hole
@WatchWitt
2 жыл бұрын
Adjusting that angle didn't solve the issue, and the original plastic movement holder was nice and snug. The clone movement is so cheap that fingers immediately get pointed at it! But obviously it could be me, too! I bought a Miyota 8215 to complete this project, but haven't had time to build/film it yet.

my guess is...you forgot the metal spacer between the movement and the dial. It keeps the date wheel from rubbing the dial, and probably helps align the stem too.
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
I wasn't able to get the new one in, but did reuse the plastic one from the old watch, since everything was identical size.

@@WatchWitt I see. But you might be talking about the spacer in the case that holds the movement. I meant the dial ring you can see installed at 1:28. It's on the table at the end of the vid next to the dial. I learned by trial & error. :)).

@@commentjedi Ahhh. It's been so long since I made this video, I can't recall that part. I see it on the table, as you mention, though, AFTER I was done with the swap! Thanks for pointing it out! Amateur. 😂 Well, I bought a new movement and handset for it...just haven't done the work yet. I'll be looking for that ring in my box 'o parts.

I hate learning things the hard way. I've been doing this for a few years now, and although I've restored maybe 100+ vintage watches, there's always that one point where I break something and feel so stupid for doing it.
@WatchWitt

Yeah, what’s funny is this whole project came about because I accidentally smashed the crystal on the donor watch! But like you said, you learn things as you go along. And I’m able to share with others...

Thanks that gave me a good idea , now would never buy Mingzhu 2813, however I believe the seagull movement is a better choice. My choice would be Seiko NH35.

Awesome! Yeah, I JUST went through on my idea at the end of the video. I bought a Miyota 8215 with the black date wheel, and found a new handset to replace this one. I’m not sure the Seagull fits with this case/dial configuration I have, so I was just going with what I KNEW was compatible.

get a Miyota 8215, same measurements

Yes, I mention that at 04:47 but it kills me to have paid more that I could have just bought it for! I have back burnered the project, so maybe now that time time has passed I can suck it up and buy the Miyota and a new handset. After all, I've got a great looking non-working watch sitting in a box...that doesn't do me any good either! Ha!

Yeah, I never would have thought that. That’s why I posted this video, to show a couple of my mistakes and my regret for trusting in that movement. I’m not discouraged, nor should anyone else be in trying a project like this. The end result would have been nice! And if you’re a tinkerer, it’s just fun and gives you some pride every time you look down at your watch!
