A Teagasc conference, in association with Maynooth University and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) on ‘Pine Weevil Integrated Pest Management’ was held on 4 May 2022 at the Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore, Co Offaly, Ireland.
It focused on current issues with Pine Weevils in Irish forestry and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) options for controlling the pest.
The event included talks from Irish and UK experts on a number of topics including Pine Weevil IPM, reforestation and continuous cover forestry, pesticide registration, regulations and future outlooks, pine weevil forecasting and the UK experience.
Padraig O’Tuama is a private forestry consultant specialising in Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF). In this video, he discusses CCF, what it is, and its benefits such as conservation, protection function, financial and societal benefits and its role in Integrated Pest Management.
