this time last year, I was studying abroad in milan, italy and never would've guessed a global pandemic would stop others from doing the same. my heart goes out to those who have had to leave their abroad experience to come home. it is truly heartbreaking to see the world in this state and to think these countries that I have beautiful memories of are currently in a state of crisis. nearly a year has gone by and I have finally gotten around to putting footage from my trips together. in an effort to make this video more personal and hopefully more representative of the independence and gratitude I felt during this time, I included a few pieces of journal entries. my time abroad was a major period of growth for me. when I arrived, I was mentally and emotionally exhausted from what was my most difficult semester at cornell. by the time I left, I had not only gotten to explore a beautiful country and make unforgettable memories with friends and family, but I felt like I had a better understanding of myself and mental health and had gained confidence in my ability to simply figure things out on the way. so much of this had to do with the freedom and self-reliance of moving to a new country by myself and seeing parts of the world I had only dreamed about. I will never never never take this experience for granted. though my home base was in milan, I traveled around italy and visited switzerland, france, and germany. hope you enjoy and are staying healthy and safe during these trying times. love, erika

I was studying abroad in Milan as well this past spring and had to come after about 6 weeks bc of Covid. I can't tell you how much happiness this video brought me seeing some of the same places I was able to visit like Como, Florence, and Cinque Terre and also seeing the places on my list that I didn't make it to :( but what an awesome video!!!

Crazy how much changes in a year... Italy is such a beautiful country, and I know this from just my two short visits in 2017 and 2019. Thinking of and praying for this country AND the whole world.
