Here's a recipe for Fancy Beans on Toast for an easy mid-late summer meal. Pan fry some bacon until crispy then remove from the skillet. Add some butter to the bacon fat and saute a sliced leek and a couple chopped garlic cloves. In a another pan, blanch some broad beans, lima beans, sweet peas, and pearl onions then strain well and add to the skillet with the leek and garlic and toss the bacon back in. Grill or toast some sourdough and top with the fancy beans, salt & pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and top with some shards of parmesan cheese. Sometimes I add some halved cherry tomatoes and a splash of vinegar. Delish!

Tipper, I once visited a friend of mine in late spring, when I pulled up in his drive he was working on some plants on the tailgate of his truck. I walked up and was surprised to see two flats of zucchini plants totaling 48 plants. I asked if he was planning on feeding Shelby County. He said I don't reckon. I said, Pat do you have any idea how many Zucchini you will get off all these plants? he said, Well, no this is the first time I've planted it. It'll be the last time if you plant all these plants!. I talked him into planting 6 of them in a big bed, with him protesting the whole time. Later when the plants were full-grown I was back over again and the bed of Zucchini was so thick you couldn't see the ground anywhere. They sure have gotten big, Bill! Yep, they tend to do that. We were regular visitors to his place and when the zucchini started setting on he tried to load me up with zucchini every time I saw him.. I don't know what I would have done if I had planted all of them he said. I do, you'd had them in boxes out beside the road with a sign that said FREE ZUCCHINI. Reminds me of the time when I was in high school, I came home from school one day and my mom and dad were sitting out on the front porch looking like they were exhausted, Whatcha been doing? I asked. We planted 400 tomato plants today!. Well to make a long story shorter, We set boxes of tomatoes out beside the road with a sign FREE TOMATOES. My mom canned over 100 gallons of tomato juice that summer, sure was good the following winter in soups, we would open a gallon and put it in the fridge, and grab a glass when the notion struck us. Don't want to wear out my welcome so I'll bid you an adieu !

Y’all talking about stuffed dates reminds me of the Christmas Care Package from my grandma on my dad’s side… she and my dad’s 4 sisters would bake cookies and all sorts of goodies… but my favorite was the stuffed dates… each one had a peanut inside and once it was closed back, they rolled it in sugar… they were sooo good! I’ve been told that stuffed dates are a middle eastern thing and that over there the nut stuffed inside would be an almond… that sounds pretty good too.

Loved the timing of this video. I’m repotting plants and sewing seeds while listening to y’all. So wonderful! I enjoy ‘talking’ to my garden & trees; sometimes it turns into a pep talk. I encourage them to grow where they’re planted. When they’re flourishing, I congratulate them & when they’re struggling, I try to infuse some will power into those roots. My husband always laughs at it, but in an endearing way. I’ve been out this spring, recovering from surgery & my husband came in after working the land for a few hours & said, ‘well, once you’re up to going out to the trees, they could really use one of your pep talks. They just don’t seem to want to grow for me, and I tried talking to them like you do. Just not the same.” I loved that he was out talkin to our trees. He’s taken over caring for my garden for the most part and it’s been fun to share the joy of gardening with him. ♥️ Praying for your family.
