I disagree with your stance on Schlumbergera, but respect your points. I personally love how they flower during the darkest days of the year, give buds to look forward to a grand finale and are super easy to grow. Also one of the most freely/reliable flowering cacti and they stay quite compact compared to rhipsalis for example, which often bruise easily, are more finicky to flower and have flowers that are nowhere near as big or colorful.

Whilst we animals were still coming up with assorted rat things the ancestors of cacti adapted to the desert then moved into trees then adapted to living in wet conditions then some of them came back to the desert and adapted back to living in dry conditions. However somehow of all the things produced by that process people decided to cultivate something that blooms for five minutes and gets its name from a British man.

Loved this video and I love how honest and self aware you are, it’s important to be in gardening as much as it is in life in general. As you mature in gardening you learn , at least for me to not rush into the rare plant hype. Their prices WILL come down. Also rarity is so subjective, cause the Polynera although now common where you are, is still rare here in Nigeria.

The pilea thing is crazy to me because my mom got me one as a birthday present in 2019. It was just a random little grocery store plant labeled as a "friendship plant". I knew nothing about it and just thought it was cute. Now, the shop I work at keeps getting requests for them, but the supplier doesn't have any. Meanwhile, I gave mine a "haircut" a few months ago and now have the original plant in a 7 inch pot, four more in 4 inch pots, a baby cutting in my propagation box, and 4 more baby plants in 2 inch pots. They're multiplying!

I have a dozen or so different Schlumbergera cactus- Thanksgiving like the one shown, Christmas and Easter cactus as well. When my Thanksgivings start to bloom, they will produce for 1-3 weeks depending on the age/size of the plant. Many of my plants will then have a second round of blooms a few weeks later, although the second bloom only last average of 2 weeks. This is the species of plant that started my obsession and I still buy new ones every year when I spot a color flower I don't have. They can be a bit dramatic when thirsty but I love they provide bright blooms through the darkest months (Nov-March in the US).

Congrats on the sponsor. tbh you should be getting so much more. Love your stuff and the editing and presentation, it really makes this niche a lot more engaging and fun to digest for people that may not really know a lot. That being said, i feel like a video on interesting plants for terrariums and reptile enclosures would be really cool. I've been keeping reptiles for 20 years and i feel like you could have some really good insight on interesting plants that no one would consider for bioactive builds. we have a ton of options in the community but if im being honest im tired of pothos and stuff that just everyone else has. You always talk about light and tropical conditions being the downfall of many house plants, but a controlled environment like a vivarium would help mitigate that I think. especially when keeping reptiles that require UVB. Much love, man!
