This was a fabulous lesson, Its taken me many years to be able to absorb what is being taught here. The pinches and walking bass lines. I can do some of these licks good enough to encourage myself further. If I jammed on this particular lesson 3 times a week for a month, I'll get alot better.

However, I feel you were more than a little remiss for not at least mentioning Brownie McGhee, whose entire style you've encapsulated here. @AlexFarranGuitar

Thanks for the purchase and the comment my friend! 🙏🏻 That run is a mixture of a few different things. First and foremost, plot out your E major triads on the top 3 strings and use those points as landmarks or target notes. We then add colour around them courtesy of elements from the major and minor pentatonic scales.. making sure to always “correct” that minor 3rd up a semitone to G# 👍🏻

are those flats? very mellow on the bottom. One of my favorite things in that old finger picking is the contrary motion turnarounds, or the chromatic leading from the 3rd of the initial chord down to the 5th of the destination chord. Get all that stuff in the time pocket, its sweet and fun to play. The capo has pretty good utility to switch up character. I just wish people liked it more.
@AlexFarranGuitar
20 күн бұрын
Thanks mate, I appreciate the comment! Yes these were flats, but I'm not so keen on them with this guitar.. they're TOO dark.. they sound ace on my es175 though. I've gone back to my preferred nickel wound 12 gauge strings on this guitar now (D'addario EJ21).

@@AlexFarranGuitarI leave mine on til bath time for the fret board, or the E snaps coming back from to open G, maybe two sets a year. The last parts on tone were very helpful and comprehensive. What simple things could be done to improve tone in a live acoustic session ? Is it strings , guitar type or some light amplification . ( my realistic choices ) The simpler the better for space reasons . Was about to order flatwounds until I heard you last comments
@AlexFarranGuitar
4 ай бұрын
Thank you! For live use I take the same kind of approach as in this video.. blending the amp signal with a close mic (usually an SM57). Strings no doubt make a small impact on tone also. I favour roundwound nickel 12 gauge on this guitar, although I was using flatwounds 12s in this video.
