Some folks just don't understand that the hot water mixes with the cold to get the water temp needed. Makes no sense to set a water heater lower vs. higher since a lower setting will result in less per tank volume as more of the hot will be used to get a comfortable temp in the shower...the pipes from the heater to the shower will take away much heat, same goes for the kitchen sink and dishwasher. I never understood how an anti scalding shower valve made any sense when there is a cold water valve to mix the hot with. Sure was a good flow coming from that old shower valve set...nothing today would fill that tub as fast.

I have a well with minerals in the water. When I upgraded to a new tub/shower valve w/ cartridge - I knew to apply either plumber`s grease or dope to all threads, O-rings, and fittings from bitter experience. My local code specifies 120 degrees for my electric water heater stand-alone. I think they are trying to idiot-proof everything these days. Don`t go to ebay: Danco is junk. Lowes guy told me that many Delta fixtures have lifetime replacement on some parts. Several years later I got a free cartridge from Delta. Danco is a Peerless knock-off. I wonder how Steve feels about flushing/draining hot water heaters. Seems to be a controversial topic. I do mine each year because manufacturer suggests it.
@Garth2011

These days codes and the Government are trying to take out the common sense and replace it with idiot sense. Flow restrictors on a bath tub, shower and kitchen sink are stupid. People know enough to turn the valves on for the needs of the task. Filling a bathtub is plain stupid with low flow valves and faucets. Same for a kitchen sink. How is that saving water? I guess they think we peons in society turn on water faucets full blast everytime regardless of the needs for the task at hand.
@craigharding475

@@Garth2011 Well said! I think you just coined a new expression, Garth: "IDIOT SENSE". It should be up there with "Idiot Light"...meaning that it is for idiots. (Like the idiots that keep voting these clowns in office). These Liberals are big on "Child-proof" features, for instance. Children simply require adult supervision. But these over-reaching govt. "leaders" tamper with proven and true industrial designs under the pretext of child safety in their flawed "group think" logic (as they try to justify their own existence) and only succeed in frustrating and tripping up ADULT consumers. I HATE child-proof screw-on caps and especially the new child-proof Fuel containers. They are poorly designed and leak flammable liquids all over the place! It might sound paranoid of me, but are they trying to replace parents and parental authority with Orwellian government authority, or what?
