There is a lot of hate for the music video. People seem really annoyed because it's either "too sexy for a sincere apology song" or "the girls have an irritating attitude" or "the girls aren't sexy enough and the clothes are ugly". I actually think the video is brilliant. Because Todd is right. This "apology" is so fucking far from sincere it's hilarious. And the girls in the video treat it as such. It's the ultimate FU to the shit of an ex boyfriend trying to pretend their way back into your life. As for the girls being "too sexy" or "not sexy enough", consider this: NOT ALL DANCING GIRLS IN MUSIC VIDEOS ARE MEANT TO GIVE YOU A BONER. These are some of the best street dancers in the world, they are a part of the top dance crews. Look up their performances, they are AMAZING. The outfits are intentionally not-traditionally-sexy, they take some focus away from the supposed "titillation" and up the irony. I truly applaud the people behind the video, to think they gave us something this enjoyably sarcastic.
@bespectacledheroine7292
7 жыл бұрын
*RIGHT?!?!* I'm so relieved I'm not the only one who sees this. Those girls are sarcastic as all hell, which is perfect, because they're meant to deliver Justin's half assed apology he couldn't even be deigned to show up for himself. I absolutely adore the girls in that video, but I despise the song. I couldn't figure out how this could be the case for the longest time, but I realized that these girls understand how much of a joke this song really is, or it sure looks like they do. The lyrics are so objectifying and callous and these dancers are making a mockery of them. Let's contrast this with something like the Blurred Lines video. These girls look like bored props which only exist for the appreciation of the male singers. In the Sorry video it's the opposite. It's like they're hijacking the song from Bieber completely and making their own version, and it's hysterical.

Bieber's song is like, "yeah, I'll say I'm sorry, but ha I don't really mean it, I'm still a douche and you love it." And for some reason people are into that kind of persona.

When I first saw this video clip, I laughed; Bieber knows he's so hated by the public, he decided the best thing he could do was give them a Bieber-free video! Kind of like how McDonald's new advertising campaign is "How very un-McDonalds!". I've never liked any Bieber music, but to be honest, there's something about this song that I find really catchy. I actually really like the videoclip - the dancing is incredibly hypnotic and I love watching it (especially because I don't have to look at Bieber's face). Yeah, it's a completely insincere apology, both in the context of the song's narrative and in the context of Bieber's career ("can't we just get back to when everyone loved me?"), but when considered just as a song with a very engaging videoclip, this song remains one of my guilty pleasures.

Jaspertine Yeah, I think you're right about that. It would be so much easier to just be able to say whatever we want with no filter and no concern for how others will be affected/react. Also explains the harshness of the Internet. The anonymity that comes with it provides some people the security to be assholes. Like you said, we secretly wish we could say what we want without having to answer for it.

I am always so happy to see your reviews, Todd! You are honestly my favorite reviewer from Channel Awesome. After seeing these comments about the music video I went ahead and watched it for the first time and it's pretty clear the dancers aren't buying the sincerity of the song either. LOL. They're obviously having fun, but their expressions and their outfits makes me think that they are poking fun at Bieber and his teenage girl fans.

I hated it the first time I saw it. I originally thought it was one woman green screened over and over again. The choreographer seemed really proud of it but I don't know why, the choreography is barely there the girls are just flailing around.
@sweetasbloodredjam
8 жыл бұрын
+Jenifer Joseph I actually think it's a like a wierd stroke of genius and probably a big part of the reason that this 'apology' actually worked. These girls are directed to be so blantantly ironic and appalling in attitude that it fits the douchy lyrics perfectly. It basically oozes with #sorrynotsorry. It's like it's saying, 'yeah I fucked up, but I don't give a shit because let's be honest, you like that about me.' Just contrast that in your head with naked crying Justin Bieber under a waterfall for the 'sincere' approach to this video. It never would have worked. This on the other hand, is so blatantly incencere, that you sort of have to hand over a ittle bit of grudging respect just at how much of a little shit he is being with it. Someone else said the choregraphy was 'dancing ironically' and i think it hit the nail on the head. A lot of the moves they are doing are actually something you'd see played straight in a Beyonce video about empowered women or something.

i know this happened way after this was released but you can add travis scott in that category. he caused like ten kids to die from his astroworld disaster festival back in late 2021. what did he do? he spent the rest of 2021 apologizing in public. what did everyone do? they clowned on him. what did he do next? he continued his career in 2022 like if nothing has ever happened. what happened next, people continued to rock with him, including his buddy drake, who had him as a guest appearance on one of his albums in 2022 and it had big streams. speaking of drake, he was also part of the astroworld festival disaster and drake didn't apologize for nothing and what happened? his career kept going up and up and still maintained that strong fanbase. i could also mention the doja cat's situation and cardi b's situation (not related to the astroworld festival disaster) and they didn't apologize for shit and their careers kept going higher, but i think you all see what i mean here, right? like you said, everybody just likes unrepentant assholes.
