For me, the next-level upgrade for the Vostok Amphibia would definitely be the Doxa Sub. Both lines have polarizing designs, unique engineering, and military pedigree. And for the pop culture nerds, Doxa is Jacques Cousteau's preferred brand of watch, while the cinematic parody of him, Steve Zissou played by Bill Murray, wore a Vostok in Wes Anderson's Life Aquatic.

I don't like the idea of putting watches in tiers by the price. It's like the more you spend the cooler you are mindset. This is a great video because it gives you more concrete pricing tiers. That is, it is important to know where the value breakpoints are. Given a certain price point, knowing how much more money you should be looking to spend for the next tier is often a hard thing to initially figure out. Using simple numbers: if you have a watch that retails for around $250, you probably won't get that much more value out of a similar watch for $500, but definitely would at around $1000. Teaching the price breakpoints is vitally important for teaching new collectors how to evaluate value.

Great video. An interesting historical fact about the Hamilton Pulsar: Gerald Ford wore it while he was president. According to some accounts, it caused a stir in the media because it was given to him as a gift by White House Legal Counsel Philip Buchen, who had received it for serving on the board of directors of the Star Watch Case Company, which manufactured the case for Hamilton. There was speculation that it exceeded the maximum gift value allowed by law which caused Ford to stop wearing it for a while until the hoopla died down. There is a famous New York Times photo of Ford wearing the watch while testifying to the House Judiciary Committee about Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon for any potential crimes related to his role in the Watergate scandal.

The PSR is one of the biggest bamboozles in watchmaking history. The Hamilton Watch Company today is not the same Hamilton Watch Company that started Pulsar, although they would like people to believe that they are and profit from that misconception. The Hamilton Watch Company went defunct and reorganized itself as HMW in 1971. That same year, they sold their watch division to SSIH and named it (confusingly) Hamilton Watch Company Inc. The new Hamilton Watch Company Inc. did not develop, market or acquire any part of Pulsar. Pulsar was retained as a separate company by HMW who sold it in 1977. Pulsar was acquired by Seiko in 1978 and still owns the brand and rights today. Hamilton cannot call this new model a Pulsar because they don't own the rights to that name and they never have. They are not the same company that invented the Pulsar prior to the formation of HMW and the sale of the former Hamilton watch division to SSIH (now Swatch).

An interesting video Teddy, It's great to see the PRX get a mention as well as the Hamilton PSR. There have been a few that have written the PSR off as an expensive homage watch to the Pulsar original and there may be a grain of truth in that. However the PSR is made in smaller quantities, has a bracelet, case module that is not used is anything else so internal costs would be greater in smaller quantities. For a digital watch this has a simple elegance to it. It's definitely one to see in the flesh. I'm certainly happy with mine even though is hours, minutes and seconds (push button twice).

Best thing about this vid was that he never mentioned R***X!!! I’m so sick of KZitem shills constantly hyping this ripoff brand.

Spot on with the skx to spb143, Teddy! Haha that’s exactly what i upgraded to. My recent upgrade has been the sje093 which is just lovely.

I always felt the Samurai was the unsung successor to the SKX. It is a rock solid powerhouse that also looks very handsome and I don't think it gets near the credit it deserves.

Unpopular opinion: that Maurice Lacroix is very ugly. And it reminds me of those Lacroix drinks that barely have any flavor.

Sorry, but in light of recent events, I want nothing to do with anything made in Russia. Anyway, people like to give Vostoks a lot of slack, but at least the one I have is really a garbage watch.

Am i the only one who doesn`t like the five stars on the dial? (Longines Spirit or Zulu Time) Would be nicer without them. Opinions?

Teddy have you heard about polish brand Balticus? Paul Rich copied they project star dust. I hope that you will review baticus someday. For many watch collectors here in Poland this brand is igniter of conflicts.

If Putin was not a maniac bent on reuniting the soviet union I would be more than happy to get another Amphibia. How can I spend money on a Russian watch when they just invaded Ukraine?

Personally I find watches in this price range very underwhelming. £1000 is still a lot of money and none of these make me excited to spend my £1000 on.

Most $200 watches look and perform so similar to what you can get for $800 more. I’m just gonna save my pennies and buy myself an omega sea master when I can afford it 👍

Agree. The affordable ones are much more appealing for me in most of these instances
