It's starting to look like an engine. I'll take you through engine timing and assembly for the rest of the sensors and parts in preparation for install.

You may find when you replace that defective tensioner that your camshafts will line up spot on. It is not uncommon for camshafts to be out of alignment by just a hair (a very thin one) , as this is my experience with complex motorcycle engines. Good luck and thanks for showing all you have in the rebuild to the public.

Wow! This is coming along! This part is probably what I would think to be the worst part, trying to figure out what goes where, months after disassembly. But then the anxiety of that first crank has got to be a (insert colorful word here) too. For me it got real when the intake went back on. It’s starting to look like an engine again. Hats off to you! Also checked out the AutoAmateur podcast last week. It was a good listen! Can’t wait for the next installment.

@@997Dad my familiarity with anxiety and pain doesn’t come from rebuilding engines. I’ve never had to, nor would I have the guts to. I can just imagine being paranoid about every little step. Anyways, great content.

Well done man ! I applaud you . Might be wise to have the starter motor reconditioned or replace at this stage , as they are a ball ache to replace institu. I believe there are a couple of water hoses that can only be replaced once engine is out ? Great work.

I had replaced the starter thinking that was the cause if the hesitation. But it turned out to be heat rot in the battery cable. That sucks to replace

Great videos. I think I am going to have to do a rebuild as well....AOS went bad, not sure of the damage yet. I am curious if you want to sell your special cam shaft and piston tools?
@997Dad

The tools are pretty cheap on Amazon or eBay. Maybe $150 for all of the ones needed.

Awesome.... is that a bottle of DT-40 I see? Also, have you considered getting the injectors professionally cleaned?
@997Dad

It is, well BR-40 as you can't use synthetic oil until you get to roughly 4k miles. I bought new injectors. They really aren't expensive enough to worry about cleaning original injectors.

I'm using the break-in oil from driven. I wish I had gotten a new battery cable. I hadn't realized it had heat rot until I finished.

Great build.....curious, did you upgrade the throttle body to the 82mm GT3 throttle body for the increased air flow since you have also increased displacement and exhaust airflow with your fabspeed headers, highflow cats and muffler?
@997Dad
2 жыл бұрын
I've debated it. Will probably take it to a dyno first. $1000 for 10hp isn't going to make much difference for me.
@gjpizzo

@@997Dad I am not an engineer, but I suspect you will get more than 10hp given the 5% increase in displacement. HP is a function of the volume of fuel and O2 that combusts. In this case you have significantly increased the volume of the combustion chamber, but if you do not allow for enough 02 to fill the chamber and leave quickly. The main reason the 997.2 S went from 355HP to 385 HP was the improvement in airflow with the addition of 82mm TB, longer headers, and remapped ECU, and I believe upgraded camshafts. (basically the X51 package became standard)
