What an incredibly helpful video. I have a bunch of cuttings I just potted up, next step is figuring how to get through the winter

Glad it was useful. Don’t overwater cuttings in winter. When they become dormant they will not need water

Ken I love you videos. So informative. Do you buy your labels preprinted or just a normal label printer? I’m sick of mine wearing or bleaching off and having to guess what’s what.

Thank you for your kind comments. I use a label machine on yellow plastic because Zi find that this combination lasts for years. Have a good year Ken

Thanks Ken, You explain things so well. I will now have to wait till spring, watch the videos again and begin using techniques you have taught. I have researched the hydro pod and do not see any like yours in the U.S. Is there a specific brand you use?

Hi Judith I am surprised that you can't find Hydropod (all one word) on Google. I do know of people who have found one in the US. Try putting in 'hydropod propagator 'I have just tried and found an 'X-Stream Plant Aeroponic Propagator' which looks the same as mine. Perhaps the brand has changed. Let me know how you get on please? good luck Ken

@@kenblackclematis8272 Thanks for the info. I think I found what I was looking for. I was not finding ones that showed the spraying action. I am excited to try this once my clematis start growing this spring. I have also ordered 5 new ones from Dan Long at Brushwood: Tentel, Ada Moon, Hagelby White, White Magic, and Kai. Here in the states nurseries do not have much variety. Your videos have been an inspiration for me as I love learning new things. I will let you know how I do this spring on my propagation expedition. I've saves seeds from my Tekla so I will be trying that too. Retirement has it's advantages as this will be the year I go to the Chelsea Flower Show.

Thank you for very informative videos. How long kilometres take to root in Hydropod? I have put cuttings in soil and I can see some new lives have come up. How would I know the root system has developed?

The cuttings root in 6=8 weeks in the hydropod.

Thanks for the video. Does it usually take about 2 months for the cuttings to root in your hydropod? Also, have you ever used rooting hormone on your cuttings? Thanks again.

It takes about 6 weeks for the cutting to grow a large enough root to pot up. I used to use rooting powder when I used gritty compost for cuttings but with my hydropod it is not necessary.

I gather it is also possible to propagate by layering and as I am a bit hopeless with cuttings I thought layering would be easier, albeit slower. Do you ever do this? Pros and cons?
@kenblackclematis8272

Layering is a good way to increase your stock but generally it takes a year to get one additional plant. Sometimes,however, if a particular variety is hard to propagate from cuttings or doesn’t set seed, layering is the best way to do it.

15.44 August might be a good month for England , but probably not for Greece when the temperature is 39C.
