Salvation is both a singular event and a process, not one or the other. Upon our being born again and believing the gospel, we are sealed in Christ by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14); in that moment, we have been given eternal life (John 3:36). Scripture also demonstrates a consistent theme of "already but not yet." This is to say that there is more to salvation than us being sealed and Heaven-bound. We are told that salvation is three-fold - upon our initial believing, we are justified, that is to say we are declared righteous in the sight of God (Romans 5:1). The next part of our salvation is sanctification (Romans 6:22), this is the process whereby the Holy Spirit dwelling within us causes us to grow in holiness and spiritual maturity throughout our lives (Hebrews 10:14). The final part of salvation is glorification where, when we die, we are made perfect and dwell with God forever (Romans 8:30).
