Awesome Vids, I owned a KZTE, 3LT (120Prado) for ages. Standard engine spec, 95KW are Donkey standards. These Engines are underpowered to pull a Prado. Prado in general is a heavy 4x4 compared to a Hilux. The KZT engines pumps in the Hilux, also, had one for ages. Eventually chipped my 120 Prado, got 20% more KW's (120KW) after some deep dive researching on tuning Prado engines, I came up with the following mind-blowing formula, see below: More KW's = More Fuel (Patent Pending) You cant fine tune an engine to get more KW's and less fuel at the same to, its one or the other. After my intense research which I got a Nobel Peach price for and restored World Order, I took some time to reflect on my formula ( More KW = More Fuel), I then realized the answer to this question , this age long riddle was under my nose, the entire time. The greatest riddle was solved and I need to share it to the Prado world. The answer to the equation that mankind got stuck on for ages, that kept people under engine hoods day in and day out, is: More KW + More Fuel = PRADO V6 177KW + 16L/100KM = Prado V6 (Chew on this for some time, it will get to you. (Less time spend under the hood, more time out in the bush) Thank me later.

Hi Todd, congratulations on your videos, I really like them. I am from Brazil and I have a Prado VX 2008 powered by the 1KZ-TE engine. Here in Brazil it is common for Prado owners to use piggyback chip in the original engine. By the way, I think 1KZ-TE a bit weak at high revs compared to hilux 3.0 D4D 171hp. What do you think about using a piggyback in the original engine configuration? Thanks

5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, good to hear from you. Sounds like you have most of the mods already done, but you should really be looking at getting a full 3" exhaust, to open up that exhaust pathway. The factory system, especially the dump pipe, is quite restrictive, and will probably be causing the temperature problems youre facing. My advice would be to sort out your exhaust first, then if you still think its not operating as it should, grab some new injectors. They made my engine run smoother, and helped with a bit of a fuel economy improvement too

Hi mate, yes the factory exhaust is pretty restrictive on the 1KZ Prados and Hiluxes. Replacing the dump pipe will yield the most gains, but if you are replacing the dump pipe then just replace the whole system with a 3" high flow system with a high flow muffler. The engine is much more responsive and gives you a bit more usable power.

The scan tool I used was just a bluetooth OBD2 reader from Ebay, most should work for this application. Then I read it through my smartphone via an app called Torque Pro, which then needed a sequence of code added in order to read the older style M-OBD system used on the 1KZ 120 series Prado. There is a full write-up on this technique on the Pradopoint forums if you are looking to do it yourself.

so how does the 3 bar map sensor fool the ecu to get 18psi? any other good egt gauge besides redarc
@offroadcrusader
4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, the MAP sensor takes the boost pressure (air pressure) against a sensor and converts that into a voltage, which corresponds to an actual boost pressure. So 2psi might register as 0.2v, and 14psi might register as 0.9v (I'm just making those numbers up but that's how most sensors work). The 3 bar MAP sensor essentially changes this voltage reading that the ECU sees, essentially only telling the ECU that the voltage is 1/3 of what it usually is. This means that in theory you can run 3x the boost on the factory ECU before it cuts fueling. Obviously running 42psi through the factory turbo with no additional fuel being added is pointless, so I just use it to get that bit more air through. You can push the boost up to around 20psi before the turbo runs out of puff, but I keep mine a bit below that to keep things safe. With any gauges, I'd prefer to run high quality units so that I can rely on their info, as I have heard of low quality units like Saas failing or not displaying the correct numbers. I can't really comment on many other brands, though I do know VDO are a pretty respected brand as well.

I want more power to run on road, climbind better, keeping up 140 km/h without lose speed. So, what you can indicate to me for won this what I'm looking for? Wich one is better diesel chip can use and work on this pickup? One new turbo? My hilux is entire original, except for the tire measurements because I'm using 31.10,5r15. I would really be grateful for a help, since here in Brazil there are few who know about these details.
@offroadcrusader
4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, good to hear from you. These 1KZ engines are never going to be racecars, but some more fuel and higher boost will help you achieve more power when needed. A diesel chip and the boost turned up to 14psi will help you along nicely, and would be a good starting point in chasing more power. I'd recommend reaching the factory turbo limits first before looking at replacing it, since there is still more you can get from the turbo (up to 20psi before it runs out of puff). Cheers
