Steven, next time you spray oven cleaner over the inlet manifold throw it into a plastic bag and tie it off so its sealed and the results will be much better than before as the cleaning agent is intensified 3 fold. this is a bakers trick for cleaning oven racks!

I have a manual and put a ratchet on the crank shaft wheel and turned to close the valves. If you shine a light in there to see when the valves are closed then you can spray carby cleaner or whatever in there, leave it in there for a while to dissolve all the filthy build up in there. You can pump the carby liquid out using a a pump like you use for liquid hand soap but i found it easier to just use paper towel to absorb it. I used hooky tools, rags and paper towel on extended needle nose pliers to clean it up. it takes a long time and many goes at it. I modified my wet and dry vac with a piece of conduit and gaffa tape to get rid of the bulk initially. blow out with compressed air to finish. came up a treat, MAKE SURE THE VALVES ARE SHUT BEFORE YOU SERVICE EACH INTAKE PORT or pooh sandwich for lunch you will have.

Greqat video, however The actual removal and bolt back on shown. I know the torque setting and the nut sizes but do you need a socket extension for the manifold nuts. and if so what size? I may need to get one fro the removal tomorrow/Thursday. I've also watched your injector vid and doing those as well - El prado has done 340k , bought at 212k and I have no record of previous service to them

Added this video to my "Motor DIY" playlist. I'ts one of the jobs on my [ever-expanding] todo list. What's everyone's thoughts on the other side of the argument re blocking the EGR ie. that it can can harm the engine, as it will be running with a hotter intake? I'm a bit in two minds whether to block mine or just clean it, as mine's the non-intercooler version.

hey man, did you removed the butterflies in the throttle body as well? i blocked the EGR both ends today and just reading some forums saying should remove the butterflies if not it will restrict air flow? how is your engine going so far? any issue after blocking them?

Is there any kind of additional sealant you should put down around the gaskets, or just lay down the gaskets themselves with nothing else? Getting ready to do this same thing, but also will be putting in fresh glowplugs and injectors

I didn’t do my intercooler at that time , but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt, I’m not sure of the process and what to use to clean it , so do your homework, as my methods may not be appropriate for the intercooler

Was the egr much of a pain to undo from the intake manifold? Wanting to remove it from my engine but it seems like a very tight fit on my non intercooled model

We do egr position sensor delete as well as smooth shutdown full delete so no more throttle body

Hey Steven, I'm cleaning my own 2005 Prado 120 1kz-te inlet manifold but a bit stuck trying to remove the manifold. The bolts are off including the two nuts connecting the egr valve but i can't slide off the engine block becasue the egr valve is still hanging off the back end. How do i remove the EGR valve? Do i need to undo the large nut attaching the pipe at the rear end of the valve that goes back to the rear of the engine block? How big is that nut? (It looks pretty big at least 20 mm?)

Yeah no question, i needed to undo the large 32mm nut connecting the pipe at rear of EGR valve. Unfortunately mine is so badly corroded it is impossible to undo in-situ. I attempted to undo the other end of the pipe that is bolted to the engine block but they are also badly rusted and I have rounded the top nut. Worst possible scenario. So now the only thing i believe i can do is to cut the pipe. I will then be able to remove the EGR valve and inlet manifold and finally clean. I will then have to remove the exhaust manifold (i think this means i'll have to drop the turbo as well) and then will have better access tro the corroded fasteners of the now cut tube and remove from the exhaust manifold and the back of the EGR valve. I've ordered all new bits - manifold studs, bolts, nuts, gaskets etc including a new EGR pipe (albeit for only cosmetic purposes now ;) so hopefully I'll beat this thing into submission. Why did they choose to use fasteners that corrode when there are many other fasteners in engine bay that obviously do not.

When I removed the the nuts off the rear of the EGR valve, one bolt came out with the nut and the other only the nut came off. After nearly stripping the the thread off the the bottom RHS mainifold mount bolt to the head trying to force the manifold off the EGR I simply got some pliers and unscrewed the bolt out of the rear of the EGR valve afterwards. Pleasplay would have helped big time.

Hey Mizz, what you want to do first is to get hold of a thermo gun and you can take reading of the radiator all over and it will tell you if there's a blockage present. remove radiator and block the bottom outlet fill with water do not put a rag around the top to pressurise the radiator you would split it like a ripe melon so just fill it up then take your hand away and keep doing till it runs clear. you can also get the top and bottom removed and have the fins probed to clean problem areas but this will get expensive as some models a right bastards to seal properly again so do you research first bloke. change the coolant every couple years for trouble free motoring

You remove them from the pump and you also have to remove them from their guide mounts on the back of the manifold. There are 2x 10mm nuts holding them onto the manifold. Once theyre all loose you can move them outta the way. Dont bend them.

The egr block stops the build up of oily residue and diesel soot blocking your throttle body and inlet manifold , the egr is only for emission control and serves no other purpose, so blocking it will not damage your engine or any other component

Great video Steve. I'm halfway through this process. Just a quick question. How did you remove the EGR from the inlet manifold? Do you have to undo the large nut from the exhaust at the back of the EGR and then it comes off when you undo the other nuts? Cheers

Bit of manoeuvring but answered my own question. For those stuck trying to get the intake off you need to remove the 2 X 12mm nuts on the EGR. You also need to undo the 32mm nut that goes into the back of the EGR. Make sure to soak them in inox or similar before attempting 👍

Just tried this but I can't manoeuvre the manifold out. How do you do it? I've removed the inlet port bolts, and the EGR bolts and have moved the diesel pipes but I can't get it to come out

Got this off. So for anyone else, there's two options to get the egr to move - either two bolts on the exhaust manifold to the EGR, or a big 32mm pipe nut on the egr, I loosened the big one and got it off
