The rising pour and the creation of the weir has come out very well. The rive around the Mill made you work to get the result you wanted. Water will always find a means of escape if one exists - pesky life giving thing that it is. I'm pleased you conquered it and the mill really looks good in place. Stephen

Thats very philasophical Stephen, lol. Yes there are life lessons in this, but so glad I was able to conquer it.

the water has made a huge difference and the weirs and fast water areas look great next to the walkway and the mill.

Thanks Chris, Im really pleased with how this came out. Recent train incidents in the tunnel below leave me not seeing whats happening, so I need to remove the top section. All should be ok, sounds worse than it will be.

Thanks Robert, I suppose that's another thing that can be ticked off the list, a water / resin pour. Was bit scary if thats the right term but so much easier second time on Torr Vale. Thanks for watching Robert, much appreciated.

John, the river looks great. When I had a model railway layout over 50 years ago I used for the stream channel plaster painted light brown with in beded rocks in the plaster. My "water" was a piece of rippled plastic used for placing in home tubed light fixtures. Your efforts look alot more real then mine were. Bill and Janet from California

Its amazing how methods change and develop over the years. I can't take any credit for using resin and modpodge, Im just following the crowd and copying everyone else.

Good morning John! Both bodies of water turned out brilliantly! When I first saw you dabbing the white paint on for the rapids, I thought it was going to be a disaster! Should have known you're such a talented artist it would all end up looking fantastic! Cheers, Ian.

lol, what you like? Strangely others have said the same. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. I wouldn’t have left it looking a disaster lol. Having said that you haven’t seen what is in store for the Torr Vale unit, drastic but very necessary. Worry not the river, buildings and walkways are safe, well I hope so anyway, ha ha ha.

Hi John👍 You have a fantastic artistic eye. When you start painting the white water I couldn’t see how it was going to go. But boom it turned out fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing it’s given me the ideas and inspiration to start my water project. Keep safe and well. Andy

Fantastic Andy, using images of real locations really does help know what you are aiming for. May I suggest look at Geek Gaming Scenics, Luke Toward and Kathy Millatt on KZitem, and others have brillant explanations / demonstrationson all these techniques. There is a massive wealth on modelling water.

Excellent John ! The white water at the weir is "stonkingly" good. Pity there was so much damage to the bottom of the mill but at least the end result was worth it. Great bit of scenic work. Cheers Euan

Thank you Euan, yes the bottom of the mill unit does look a mess, but least its largely unseen. I do have to do some drastic work on this unit though, after running trains as they keep catching the trains. I need to remove the top of the hill ( forest section so I can see whats going on. ) The joys of the hobby?

Dear John, very interesting how you solved the leakage problem around the mill. Regarding the fact you built up the scenery around the mill in several sessions I humbly think it’s very easy to leave a kind of gap, like the one you now mentioned. Love the idea though to check the riverbed with actual water. Even though it sounds risky, it’s indeed a great way to check the base for leaks, although I do understand the volume count was indeed the drive for the H2O pour. Glad to see and hear the wetting of the mill base wasn’t damaged too much and appropriately restored, as well as strengthened. Love the way the weirs look after the glossy Mod Podge and the white whirls added. Great to see the way you did the riverbed around the mill did prevent the ominous creep around the river’s edges. In that sense it’s very interesting you chose a different method for the other river. Where you simply made the surrounding green scenic elements removable, which created a beautiful and crisp river edge with a very natural looking overhang of soil and vegetation. Cheerio

I can appreciate it may seem mad to use water, but it really did show any potential leakage. Water really does find the tiniest gap. I would however, make sure the riverbed is watertight before continuing, but probably would use water again. I’m not always the one to follow convention, lol

Superb John I must say and the white water effects on the weirs looks fantastic. It helps that you're good at art/ painting to get those effects. I must try modge podge at some point rather than yhe water effects cream that i currently use. Top job, glad it's all sealed and sorted. Cheers Andy

Maybe dry sand would have been a better idea than water to test the volumes needed, then it could be vacuumed up and no water damage.

Hi David, yes indeed that would work to some degree. I don't regret using the water as it found the tiniest of holes. I probably would do yhe same again, but vlearly much earlier in the build way before any foliage and riverbed scenics is added.

Ive just purchased the Rail Adventures 43s myself and wondered what decoder/sound file you used for them ?
@piccadillymodelrailways

Hi, thanks for the question. I used hornby's HM7000 decoders. I had to program them together, then reprogram the drive unit as a separate address, then put them into a consist. Sounds complicated, but on the same address each function sounded from both units. As a consist the lead powercar makes the sounds. I like it, but may I suggest talking to the sound companies. Roads and Rails along with Youchoos put their sound files on KZitem and / or their website to listen to. Hoping thats helpful.
